Verify your game files.

right click on game name for Properties
Local Files
Verify

Do that with game shut down.

If that won't help then delete the entire Valheim folder and reinstall / verify files.
corrupted or mod files will not be removed on an uninstall only files the game recognizes.. this should revert you to a "clean" install. Saves are in a different location so no worries there but it never hurts to back up your save files.

Make sure you don't have any mod managers running.

can confirm you are supposed to be able to jump when sprinting but there may be an issue with your controls.

certain things do not work when holding shift i have learned, like pressing the button to equip weapons will not work until i let go of shift. - same thing happens if i try to press a hotbar number while holding shift, game recognizes "!@#$%^&*()" as inputs rather than their numbered alternates.

im thinking this may have something to do with your problem, have you changed the button you use for jump to anything that has a shift-alternate form? like a letter for instance or a number?

because the game seems to recognize case sensitive inputs, so pressing shift "e" will make it count an "E" press rather than just "e"

If it isn't low stamina, or low jumping skill, there is only 2 other factors that I can think of;

1. If you are standing in water (not swimming) but deep enough that it slows your walking speed, that could also limit your jumps.

2. If you are standing up against an object (ran into a wall, hill, etc) and try to jump after contacting the surface.. then it will send you backwards with a lower height than a regular jump (see my prior post, effectively this is a ground-level parkour jump).

I am not a new player so i am sure stamina not a problem and space bar working properly but jumping isnt working while sprinting only and jumping is working while just forwarding

i mean there is no jump while sprinting thats my problem i didnt mean to remove it. for me jumping it isnt working while sprinting. i need it for getting out of my moats and other mountains.

Are you using any mods? There might be some conflict with the spacebar button for whatever reason.

If not, have you tried unplugging and replugging your keyboard into your PC? And maybe try to change the jump button just for testing purposes.

Jumping uses stamina as well. Make sure you are just not out of, or too low on, stamina to use jump while running.

Staying well rested all the time helps. You can drop a camp fire in the open and sit next to it with x for basic comfort.

I have had one seed that the terrain generation was a bit extreme.. right next to the spawn in was a drop off to a creek that would easily trap you without food. It was kind of interesting dealing with that while making sure i always had good food etc. But as difficult as that was I was still able to manage it with the current system.

Stay well fed and well rested. It is your best defense against not being able to jump.
Waiting at the bottom of a wall / moat is common to allow your stamina to recover and get out.

Well, there's two ways to go about this:

1) Just don't jump and stick to running.

2) Constantly jump while running to powerlevel both your Run and Jump skills. It's what I do for most of my characters (my current one actually has a Jump skill higher than his Run skill). A high Jump skill comes in handy quite often (easier to climb mountains, jump over water pits in the swamps, and especially getting up those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ staircases in Frost Caves).

I disagree. Jumping sprints are a large part of my playstyle. You cannot fully exploit terrain advantages to outmaneuver enemies without it. It's even useful to jump over a log or to get up a hill, when running back to base.

It helps me to climb up objects, as you gain just a tiny bit more height while sprint-jumping. You can also use it to parkour vertical walls to get a second (smaller) jump after the first.

Jumping while sprinting is really useful for all skill levels characters. I highly recommend you keep practicing.

If one was unable to jump while running full tilt, exploring and traversing mountain biomes would be virtually impossible. I constantly sprint, sprint/jump, walk when my stamina bar gets to or below half when travelling in rough terrain. The full Fenris set allows me to pretty much constantly sprint when travelling in the plains or meadows.

I think that would cause more problems for people getting trapped places.

^This .... add climbing skill, and then maybe. But run + jump is (should be) standard in any game.

Otherwise, what's the actual issue you're having? Launching yourself into space and then landing with a death? Better HP food should help in most situations. Not sure if jump skill lessens any fall (distance based) damage though, but I hope it does.

I imagine they're getting annoyed that 2 jumps in, they're out of stamina...

but then....just don't jump unless you need to?
