Lights changed? Area lights very dark until close?<SOLVED active point lights setting>

Noticed this recently, not sure if I messed with a setting in graphics or something changed.

Going on map I had made before so the change in lighting is easily noticed.

Basically the light almost looks like it is in fog but the map itself is clear. Then when you get fairly close it lights up from being dark and looking unlit...
The old turnip lamps had a sort of glow around the turnip but the face only lit up as I got closer to it. Looking like they are in a thick fog and getting close lets you see them.

Was this an optimization thing done at some point? Kind of not sure how much I like it... I suppose if they are just for "indoor" style lighting then it should be close enough inside to not notice... makes it kind of pointless for trail markers like in swamps though...unless they don't act like that in swamps? I could see it in the swamps but I am in the Meadows.

Is there a graphics setting that would alter that?

Just checked again and with a turnip lamp on a wall behind a workbench it wasn't lit for a second after I walked up to the bench.. that close.

I might have changed something in graphics if anyone knows what might change that kind of thing.

Floors in black forest crypts have been flashing for a while under headlamp... wonder if my graphics card is going bad or something...

That I think happened some time after hearth and home ? It was fine before that.

If you each post what graphics chipset you are using maybe you can find an updated driver or revert to an older one that will work. (if you find you are all using basically the same graphics chipset) Other players that use that chipset and are having no problems can post what driver they are using. --just a thought.

I don't think it is the card frankly since the lights to work but range is nerfed to being useless for lighting and only for decoration <and even the decoration you need to be standing on top of it>

sorry if i'm being dense! trying to make sense of things... if i understand correctly, objects which emit light (such as the turnip light) don't 'turn on' until you get close? i'm looking at your screen shot. i think it's 4 images side by side? are the 2 on left are before and after of each other? and so are the two on right? do the turnips go from the dimmer to brighter state as you get closer? and do they go from bright to dim again as you back up?

i've noticed sometimes when i first load into an area where i have a lot of lights and stuff there's bit of a delay as they're rendered in where they all look like they're unlit and then they all snap on.

The picture above in my other post is made up of 3 shots.
1 The main background of how they look from a small distance.
2 and 3 are on each side and are cropped images of those areas after I got close enough to trigger the light "on".

That said they are "on" as seen by the glow around them ... but the cast light is missing and face light is missing. <maybe the same light?>

If you look closely at the first shot there is another turnip at end of the down stair opening that has no glow... it was the only one out of fuel.


As you can see from the shot in this post the light is visible from a decent distance.

Is there a setting in graphics for this?

This is how the lower level used to look.

Now the area is dark until I walk right up to the lights... and when I walk away they go dim again but still have that glow around them like they are being seen in a fog from a distance or something.

OK I figured it out.. active point lights was turned down. Guess it was nerfing further away ones when I had the max close enough.

Was testing some things a little bit ago <so I knew I had an up to date driver etc>.

Still the floor flashing in black forest crypts have been going on for a long time before all of that though.
