Upcoming Fishing update - Concerns

I read a recent blog post by the devs that fish bait is changing.
One of these changes is non-consumption of the bait when no fish is caught (such as having to reel in and re-cast).
That's understandable. Helpful but wasn't a huge problem. But I appreciate it.
And they're removing the ingredient need of a fish from the previous biome (replacing it with base level standard bait as the key ingredient). Again was not a huge problem - but this change is cool and makes sense (but will we be able to craft the bait? or still only buy from the dvuergar vendor)?

To offset this benefit, they are reducing the stacks of bait obtained from 40 to 20.
That's where my concerns is. SO - is this saying that if I craft/cook/cauldron-ize a bait recipe i'm only getting half as much for each time I craft?

The key ingredient is trophy/heads of creatures that seem to be VERY rare!
I've killed nearly 30 serpents and only two heads so far.
I've killed twice as many lox, and only about 5 heads so far.
I don't know how many fenrings - maybe a dozen - only 1 trophy.

So my fear is that we aren't going to be able to have much bait made if the crafting results are halved with the consumption of a seldom dropped trophy.

Thoughts???

no salmon is not same as tuna. But this isn't a cooking sim game. I think it has quite a bit of diverse dishes as it is.

that being said if they want to fix fishing better they to expand the list of trophies from each biome to be used to craft the bait not worry about the minor stuff. i don't mind losing bait if the bait isn't that hard to craft. the hard you make fishing the less i wanna do it.

The Cold Bait should've use Drake Trophies instead of the Fenrings because Drakes drop Freezing Glands would've made sense if the trophy was use for a bait that isn't story progressive and is a neat feature to collect fish.

However fish are easier to catch because they jump high landing on flat land makes it easier for anyone to fetch up some hard catches without the necessary bait.

well only half reason for fishing (for me) is for purpose of fishwraps (food); I actually enjoy the fishing mini-game element of the game.
This is true for other games I play too (like Far Cry and SCUM).

but yah trying to control both space and weight allowance makes for an unnecessarily excessive grind.

I hope they decide to leave in the fish as a requirement for ingredients, it'd make it a cool little mini game for unique food and decoration drops rather than the player being able to just leap to endgame fish. It'd make fishing more of an adventure.

I think different fish should have different benefits.
Its weird they all just turn out as "cooked fish". Is salmon the same as tuna? I think not.

I think they should keep the biome fish bur remove the trophy requirement. Right now they've removed the need to fish...to get the fishing bait.

It is all just fight mobs and get trophies now. Why would they remove the fishing from the fishing minigame? We already have enough reasons to fight enemies, but not a lot of reasons to fish in different locations.

"You can fish your whole life without understanding it was never the fish you were truly after"? But they will likely introduce more reasons as the early access progresses. That's just how it is in my experience, the big picture is incomplete and only the devs have an inkling to it.

Yes stacking vs inventory management is a real struggle. I play with a mod that increases the inventory by double. But I know that's not the case for many on official servers etc
The comment Nascarman made is actually quite legitimate.
If I get as much raw fish from a quality 3 perch as I do from a quality 3 grouper - why bother getting the high end bait and going after groupers. That's a very good point.

To rework it, higher biome fish should provide more raw fish at equal quality
Like perch & pike be 1 raw fist for each quality. Then next level up Trollfish Tuna starts at 3 raw fish at quality 1 and goes to 7, and each biome level start 2 raw fish more at quality 1.

(OR something along this spectrum)

it might be concerning but their isn't a lot we can do about it.

personally i would like to say to the dev team "Pick a lane! either weight to counter inventory space or inventory space to counter weight, but not both."

I'm more concerned about actual item stack size rather than their cost. Extra inventory management is what kills fishing for me.

just catch normal fish, don’t waste expensive bait on fish that currently don’t have a unique use
