It's a cheap tactic, but if you have stones and a hoe you could just quickly raise the ground under yourself so they can't reach you.

you find a spot where they can't reach you want shoot at them.

When I started Wolves would come down and attack me while I was mining copper... I actually had a small raised platform of earth that I'd use for that... I was in Leather Armour still so I don't think anyone would hold it against me.

It is always good to have some kinda of plan for that. I'm not looking forward to them.

Early in my H&H playthrough I made the mistake of trying to mine some copper at the edge of a mountain biome. The first time the wolves came I ran. The second time I decided to see if they were as powerful as I remembered them being in early game. It didn't last long!

happened when i was in mountains, no cover, just stood on the tallest rock i could climb and whacked all the wolves back down the hill

im set on wolf meat and pelts for a while now

It all depends on who attacked you and where.If, for example, you went to the mountains for the first time in iron armor, and wolves attacked you there, then the smartest thing you can do is to escape into the portal as quickly as possible, if the portal is far away and you don't have time to reach it, then look for the coolest stone and try to climb it.In any other case, the wolves will eat you :).Well, if you walk in fully pumped Troll armor and with a good bronze weapon and you were attacked by creatures from the Dark Forest, then it should be a holiday for you :), simply because you will easily repel this attack, while collecting resources from the killed creatures.

Just run through a herd of lox. They're good a smashing wolves.

If you have bonemass and a proper set of armor/weapon for plains, you shouldn't really have too much of a problem. A good sword will mow them down pretty fast. As you can see in the picture above, I don't even have any damage just after the fight.

This event should only happen after you defeat Moder, so you would be past the mountain biome level and into plains.

Lox took care of them for me as well. I was lucky enough to be next to a giant boulder with two Lox around when the hunt started. The wolves barely made a dent in them. Two game days later though I got a Furling event. I held my own for a while but eventually died. One stood over my bed so I was insta-killed 7 times before I was able to draw them away.
