So sick of Karve destruction.

Everthing wants to take out karve while leaving the raft alone.
4th karve is gone without any idea why, and the materials for making it is gone as well.

When you dock your ship.. just beach it and destroy it with your ax.. then you don't have to worry about it and just make it again when you want to leave. Aside from that I suggest Valheim + mod. It has an option to make all materials float.. awesome for killing serpents and getting back boat pieces.

Drifting while you are in it does happen, but that would stop the moment you jump out.

Hmm. Well it definitely moved the most when I was actually in it so that rings true for the most part. They were really big waves (my rather large dockhouse was 80% under water during the peaks when its above the water in calm seas) so I might have thought it initially moved simply because it was at a different point in the wave when I came back to it and it had hit land or something.

But yeah it was the most noticeable while I was managing my inventory space inside the ship. I zoomed back out and thought "Whoa I'm pretty far away from the dock platform now! I'm glad I am in the boat so I can sail back!"

I'm used to this game throwing the unexpected at me so I guess I made an assumption that might not be true lol. I'm glad to know that it shouldn't happen so I won't need to be as detailed about docking in the future.

I'll try and remember to keep track of whether it moves when I'm not in it (and no enemies or it hitting something etc). It was the first such experience I had as all of the other times I jumped off it was where I left it - even when there were big storms while I was at my base.

I remember thinking that maybe it was a black forest dock sort of thing as all of my other docks are in meadows biomes.

I also built this dock farther out in the water than my other ones because of the potential for troll attacks.

Boats can move when you're in them, but not when they're entirely empty of players.

The easy way to see this behavior is to sail at high speed, furl the sails and drift.

Then do the same thing and jump out - your boat will stop instantly.

Ahh ok noted thanks! Sorry for the unintended misinformation.

Yeah, the boats definitely stop moving as soon as you're off them, so it's safe to leave them wherever, undocked, and they won't float away. The only thing you're in danger of at that point is losing them to high waves with rocks in shallow water and mobs. The moment you're on them though, wind and water will make them move again. :)

I almost lost my latest Karve to that. I have a port in the black forest close to the southern end of my base island to save sailing time to the swamp I'm currently farming. I had it filled with a lot of scrap iron and copper ore. I had just returned from sailing through a pretty intense storm with two serpent attacks so I was eager to get stuff unloaded before something else spawned.

I got the iron off and into a chest at the port dockhouse. At this particular port there is a farther out dock for calm seas and an earthen wall sheltered interior dock for rough seas.

Even at the sheltered dock where I parked the swells were pretty big. By the time I got back to the Karve it had moved a couple feet. I jumped in and started getting some of the copper and by the time I finished I zoomed back out and I was about 10 feet from the dock. I would have had to swim to it had I not caught it. I sailed it further onto a sandy portion and then it actually stayed put (I sat there for a while just in case).

Had I ran the iron back to my base and returned it would have likely been far out to sea and lost.

This is odd occurrence. I've lost three boats in total, no boat, no remains. But that's with over 1K in hours. I park my boat, build a bench and portal, mark the map 'boat', and head out exploring. I always find the bench and portal. Other players say that impossible. I dunno, I have lost 3, so its possible.

i build a protected/walled dock using roof parts as ramps to prevent it from being damaged while im away or during storms

With dock bases I use horizontal logs to block both the underwater and above water sight line so I can leave my boat in game. Otherwise, just break it and put it in a chest.

There's some magic to this game but I seriously question whether it's because of or despite the multitude of insanely annoying mechanics like grey's insatiable desire to vandalize, wolves tearing down brick walls, or that I just bricked my first foray into mistlands and now have to go back to a save from 20 hours ago.

They set up the AI like there should be some sort of tower defense but the only viable way with out endless fence walking is building nonsensical earth works.

we literally leave our boat parked at the swamps with no issues. Just run away from it after killing the close mobs so no more spawn and attack it.

Or just simply break the boat yourself.

you are within render distance so boat and enemies stay rendered. If youre sitting near it make sure it it safe or break it and stash materials in a chest. Otherwise just move away from it so enemies to spawn there.

I was at the other island so I'm sure it is not rendering issue. Plus then the materials should on the ground. There were no materials in sight whenever I came back.

I need upgraded axes to cut trees but one dwarf can sink my ship throwing rocks. I feel your pain. I started using disposable rafts and portals. Ships are not this game's strongest selling point for sure.

The problem isnt the ship. The problem is every mob can swim or run under water and you cant build properly at the coast.
