Help me understand the Story here.

So normally there are the 9 Realm.
For this Game.
Odin Made a 10th Realm For the Bosses that could not be Killed Perm.
Now as for us the players.
What is it now cause Im getting the feeling of.
We the Players are normal Men/Women. Who does NOT have a Warrior/fighting Spirit.
So If WE wanted to Join Odin/Thor/the other Gods. and what not.
We would have to GET a warrior/Fighting Spirit.
So With this 10th Realm. Odin Sends us there to allow us a CHANCE to get this Spirit.
We're tasked to Fight/kill all the bosses and in doing do WE are then Allowed to Leave the 10th Realm and join Odin.
But if under story reasoning ( Or what I think) If we Died in the 10th Realm. Then we are not good enough for Odin, and will never join him.
And We become monsters for the Next Person to fight as they try to kill all the bosses...

At least that what I feel the story is.......
anyone mind/care to give their take on the Story. Or fill me in on the real story in full?

Wouldn't be weird, in viking culture everyone was a warrior unless one was made a slave/serf. Being a blacksmith or carpenters while not raiding is feasible.

And while we're warriors who died not in battle, we're sent into Valheim to prove our worthiness.

Not a far stretch. Spartans were warriors first and X second. (X, meaning whatever role they did when they weren't at war)

Officially, Odin sends his best warriors to Valheim. Says so in the opening sequence.

But I think I agree more with your theory. We're probably the rich kids who don't have a lot of fighting experience, but since we come from good families, Odin wants to give us another chance, while reminding the monsters who's boss. Two birds one stone. It would be embarrassing for us to show up in Valhalla with no good stories to tell. And if we don't make it, well, too bad, we had our chance.

But we seem to be able to die and come right back repeatedly here. We probably only become monsters if we lose heart and stop trying to fulfill our mission, or start hating Odin for dumping us here.

I thought we played as warriors who failed to die in battle but are favored by Odin so we are sent to Valheim to prove our worthiness to join the halls of Valhalla. Odin showing up from time to time is him watching our progress.

Valheim is the 10th realm of the Norse world, a land where Odin cast his enemies into eternal exile. However, as the monsters begin to rise up, this is where you have now been sent in order to prove your worth to the Gods by surviving its harsh environment and fighting against the monsters that call it home.

This is the game story. But IRL there is only 9 realm

Read the intro text when you first make a character.

Read the lore stones.

Go into your character sheet / inventory screen -- one of the buttons is a lore button.

Read the dreams when you have them -- they're glimpses of your life.

The story is actually quite well documented...but if you click through it all without reading, yeah, it's easy to miss.

eta: odin's enemies built up their power, in the realm he trapped them in. he sent his bird ladies out to scour the fields of battle to find powerful dead warriors to go beat his enemies back down into submission again. The undead dudes and necks are the original inhabitants, the villages are either their homes from when they were alive, OR remnants of previous Odin's-Slaves's-beat-down-tour, depending on what they are. The greylings and greydwarves are murderers whose souls have reanimated using moss and such for bodies (thus why they drop resin). The bosses (and their kids/people) are Odin's enemies. once you finish doing your god's work by murdering everything, you'll get to go live with him in The Good Place.
