You can paddle or even tacking. Later on you can use a boss power to have wind blow in your back..

You need to learn to use Murphy's law in your favor. If you plan to go South, start by pointing your boat North. After 10 seconds, do a quick 180.

It may be bad luck, since my friends and I were sailing on different parts of the map, and no matter our distances, we all had the same wind direction. No idea if it's programmed to it orient more often only for the ones at sea.

You're more likely to notice when the wind is against than when it isn't. Also taking into account that players rarely sail in one direction, if you're turning a lot, it's only a matter of time before you go against the wind.

The answer is likely no, but it can definitely seem like it at times. Like when the wind shifts to blow in your face right after you turn. Bad RNG.

I want to agree with you all, but now on 3 separate sailing occasions the wind is against me and only changes very slightly right and left. This goes on for 15+ minutes. If it's not a feature it's a bug.
