What is silver?

I mean, yeah, it's a metal, of course.

But on a hunch I found a silver vein and instead of mining it, I excavated it.

That.... did not look like any sort of ore vein I've heard about. That looked .. vaguely organic. A horn or talon?

Anyone else done this? With more than one ore vein?

I guess it could have been a jotun's weapon or something...

Thinking about it, they're wishbone shaped. That's a bit ironic. Thanks, Odin. We get it. Wishbone-finding. A wishbone to find a wishbone.

There's something vaguely axe-head like about them too; one of those axes with a narrow head to pierce armor and cut deep, with the Y to hold the haft. I'm still tempted to say they were jotun's weapons, discarded in Valheim so we won't find the remains of the war on Midgard. :)

There are several different types of silver ore in the world depending on the geography.

Some have gray spider-like veins running through the rocks,

while others can be more gray or black in color. Silver can also be found mixed with quartz and ruby crystal formations. Silver and gold are often found together since they exist in the same base ore material.

The few times I have seen it, though, that is on a small scale, wire sized tendrils in a smaller rock. If that scales up to human sized runners, I have not seen a pic or sample of that.

Actually, most silver is not recovered from a 'Silver Ore", but rather as a byproduct of mining other metals. Commonly, lead ores contain quite a bit of silver, and the electrolytic refining of copper leaves a lot of silver and other rarer metals in the sludge removed from the copper as it is purified.

Yeah, silver veins look like the letter Y. Not sure how it is in the real world, though. Somebody experienced with ores should chime in on that.

Ore 'veins' in real life do not look like this. Well, acctually, the 'veins' in the rock are... veins in the rock. So, yeah. But the whole thing? No.

(I chopped off a bit apparently).

Checking the Wiki, I realize - unsurprisingly - I am not the first to notice this. :) I should have checked there first.

Still, it is interesting.
