Skeletons in my rack
SO I was at my main base, big ole fence around it, inside my house when I got pulled away suddenly. (The joys of parenting) I was away for about 40 minutes, come back and apparently some skeletons, who I had never seen in this area before, BROKE DOWN the gate, which i hadn't seen before, killed me, trashed the forge and workbench, all the upgrades and went into the house and kept killing me on every Resurrection. When i got back I had 3 hit points and the skeleton was standing bedside delivering the coup de grace
Must have been killed 5 or 6 times.
This is a very strange game.

If you want your veggies to grow, wait inside a troll cave or burial chamber etc. Safe from raids, and the timer keeps ticking on your garden.

Had a base in the black forest on top of a surface cave entrance. I went in the cave after an event started and the timer did not count down even though i was in the cave and dead center in the red zone on the map. Figured crypt was high or low enough to not be in the area even though it was on the map. If you want your veggies to grow, wait inside a troll cave or burial chamber etc. Safe from raids, and the timer keeps ticking on your garden.
Not really want to go in a black forest crypt during a raid event.. I would have assumed a troll cave to be the same? They would just endlessly destroy your stuff.

That is actually a interesting Idea, why did I not come up with that? If you want your veggies to grow, wait inside a troll cave or burial chamber etc. Safe from raids, and the timer keeps ticking on your garden.

This game has Raids where your Base gets raided by enemies. Raids happen when three certain items are build close enough together, I remember something like a campfire, a workbench and a bed counts for that, but there are more. Once those three are close together... there is a chance that a raid event happens. If you play solo... hit ESC to get into the menu with options and stuff, that pauses the game... no raids then.
Another thing you can do, Campfires as well as Bonfires as well as allot other items have a "Player Base" range. Inside that range no enemy can spawn. Campfires have the added benefit... enemies do not attack them.
So what you could do, is pull up a Workbench... check its building radius... it is 20 meters. Workbenches(and other objects) have a 20 meter radius in which they prevent enemy spawn as I just said, so you just use the Workbench as a measure... and put down Campfires every 20 meter.
If you do a big enough area... that prevents any and all enemies from spawning... even Raids. Plaster a wide area around your house with them, let them burn out so they not slow down your system with their smoke(they still prevent enemy spawn even when they don't burn)... and enjoy peace.

Another suggestion, although this is cheesing the game... You can create a new world, enter with your character and build them a nice little hut, get them properly geared and well fed, then return to your main world and smash the skeletons to pieces.
If you don't have a properly equipped second world already, this might take a while, but you should be good in leather, with a wooden shield and a wooden club. You don't need anything fancy for skeletons.

If possible, try to break your bed before they kill you. You will wake up at the original stone circle. This way, you can at least craft some weapons and eat some food. Skeletons are usually very weak individually and should be then easy to kill one-by-one.
I know, probably pretty hard to pull off, but good luck to you!

This happened to me. Just not with skeletons.
I knew I could pause, but i wanted all my carrots and turnips to grow so I decided to go for a bit of an ol' poop and leave the game running.
In 100+ hours I have had a few invasions and they are all just foul smells or greydwarves.
I have a moat and a small bridge and nothing ever gets inside - so I was like - it's safe.
I came back in the middle of TROLLS invading my home. Man they knocked down my fences, trees, some of my garden and side of my base.

Yeah invasions can happen at any time. Pause if in single player or log out if on a server the next time you need to step away from the game.

I've finally made it into the swamp, that abomination is my new PITA
Fire arrows don't work. I saw a vid of a guy just running back and forth between the legs.

Moats are your friend, followed by earthen walls on the inside of your aforementioned ditch about the time you get to the swamp. Unlike built walls of stone or wood, they are impermeable - and garden plants take no damage from troll thumping, so ring your base with your garden. atm walls & moats stop all but the most enthusiastic blob - but they don't do much and die easily. And of course workbenches. Best way to test your coverage is to go into build mode and wander around every inch of your base to see if there is complete coverage. Even a skinny little area will spawn a big fat troll. Who knew... And yeah, pause is the way to go now that we finally have it. Murphy's law is alive and well in Valheim.
Depending on your level & gear, just use your best axe and chop the abominations down. You can also take them over to a sertling spawn and let them toast themselves too.

you can drop it on a firey spewer or use an axe and it goes right down. They hit hard, so may want to wait for iron gear before playing with them.

you have a newly added pause button, if playing solo.
there are hundreds of posts on how to make a home safe from invasions as well; most involve terrain manipulation or your own deserted island.
Now you know.. a basic home with wood defenses isn't going to stop anything serious, and skeletons are a tier 2 (of about 6 tiers on an exponential scale) enemy. Later your home will be raided by things that can break wood like it was not even there.
