How to back up/ reload my game

On this play through I decided to make my main base on the Elders temple. It makes a sweet starter block, with a permanent fire, and you can dig out underneath it for the underground lair experience. My castle build up above is dialed in.

But I'm pretty done, I've collected every trophy head, save the Fenring and Yagluth, and I'm thinking...maybe once I've got them, I'll chuck some Ancient Seeds into the fire and see if my computer can handle the lag as The Elder appears inside my castle and starts blasting away. I'll probably record a base tour, followed by the carnage for the Youtubes.

But I kind of want to back up my game just in case I change my mind and decide to return to this playthrough. I have no idea how one does that. I am not super computer savvy. There does not appear to be a 'save game as' option in the load screens.

Is it possible to explain in small words?

TY in advance.

You don't need to back anything up... I mean it isn't a bad idea in case of hard drive failure...

but you can have as many world and character saves as you want and can store on your computer. They are not limited in any way.

I got in the habit of naming my world saves after the character to keep them organized.
But I have over 20 worlds and characters going.

Note - if starting an old save after an update it may take some time to open as it is updating it. Typically though I just start a new world for each update to avoid issues and get the full experience.

Yep - of course, you are right ... I understood that creator of the thread wants to have possibility to return to the default state if something will go wrong ...

Your worlds are saved in a folder at this location on your computer. >> C:\Users\(YourUserName)\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valhiem\worlds <<. Just copy into a new folder on desktop to back them up.
Just reload the saved world you want back into the main folder after you have done the mayhem.

In the directory "AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim", which is usually on the disk "C:" in the directory "users\your profil name" are directories "\characters" and "\worlds". Backup these two directories for sure. Attention - directory "\AppData" is marked like "hiden" usualy - therefore you must enable "show hiden" in the directory options.

I highly advise you compress the folder, 7-zip is a good pick if you don't mind getting a new tool, otherwise just right click and do the low quality send to compressed (zip) folder built into windows. Highly played world files are fairly big and it has 2 copies of that.

another reason to use 7z is you can use the command line version that comes with it to do a batch file backup in your task scheduler. Really easy daily (or hourly, whatever) backup when playing, but if not playing anymore, no point.
