Devs Begging For GOTY Despite Not Finishing Game?
What's that about? Shouldn't a qualification for GOTY require said game to actually be finished? The Hearth and Home update came out late, and it barely even had any content in it. It was a few new building pieces, a food rework that I honestly think the game didn't really need. At least, not the rework that we received. There's not really a lot of discussion about future content, and for the most part the devs are silent until a patch comes out. Even then, the patches are very, very small. I loved this game when it came out, but it's been underwhelming in every aspect post-launch. I still love this game, but that's not going to stop me from being critical about it. Are the devs disconnected, or is it me? Does this game actually and honestly deserve GOTY? What do all of you think?

To me Valheim was just another game that got the attention of streamers which made it so wildly popular during a time where a lot of people are chilling at home.
The base foundation for Valheim is pretty good but I definitely don't see it being Game of the Year material for 2021.

Hype train helped a lot to push the game
As always these days the fancy eye candy makes people blind for the lacking and shallow gameplay.
Luckily I got it for free

Sounds like the lot of you generally dislike this game completely and probably don't even play anymore..... so why even post an opinion... just move along to something else and stop the bashfest.
And to the OP, There is no such thing as a "finished" PC game. Around here we call that "abandoned" Que the James Franco "First time?" Meme Because you must be new to the PC gaming genre.

The problem with this concept (that a game shouldn't be GOTY unless it's done) is that a lot of games like Valheim have their period of relevance during early access. By the time it comes out it won't be as popular anymore as people have played it and moved on to something else.
There's a chance it will get long term relevance like Terraria or Minecraft but that's pretty rare.

For me Valheim is the game of the year. Why this? I spent 750h in it. No other game had gotten more attention from me. I played Cyberpunk for about 170h, a finished AAA title, with more bugs than Valheim, the Early Access game. If a game is really good and successful, it should be allowed to be nominated, even if it isn't actually finished yet. Valheim is more playable than some other titles and in my opinion it more than deserves to have been nominated.

Then maybe don't give such a weird interpretation on their vote post. I don't know how else to describe it. Looking at the post, and then looking at how you characterize that post, you do seem quite irritated for no reason. No, man. You can pick apart my irritation with you like that all you want, but I'm not irritated with the devs.
And I'm coming here to say that I don't really know what the actual winner of the nomination is all about, or whether it deserves it better, but the fact that VH haven't won it does not surprise me. I'm giving you my reaction because you're hopping in here saying to show respect and saying "idc who won" when I just want to hear about why people believe it should be nominated GOTY.
That was my opinion on your question. The rest was pointed towards your overreaction to the post, which you called "begging" in the very title for no apparent reason. Try to understand and catch yourself upon cases, where you pay attention to the wrong part of the reply.

Worth the nomination, not sure if it could make it. Know basically nothing about the winner and couldn't care less, but was not surprised VH didn't cut it.
Wouldn't call it "begging" thought. Every game gives pretty much the same message - informing the player base about the nomination is not begging. Show some respect when it is deserved.

Why is it worth the nomination if the game isn't even finished? That's fine that you don't know anything about the winner because this post isn't about who won? It's about Valheim even deserving a nomination for GOTY to begin with. I would call it begging, seeing as there's no gratitude for being nominated, again, for GOTY. It's just a rabid "TIME TO VOTE" which is actually how their post was worded. If you read the post in its entirety you would see that I said I loved and still love this game, and even asked if it was I who is disconnected. I showed respect.

Because that nomination goes to games released that year with notorious success. It has nothing to do with the game being finished. Why is it worth the nomination if the game isn't even finished?
Are you blind or something? DIdn't they said to be thankful for the support the players provided? What else do you expect, a gold medal? I would call it begging, seeing as there's no gratitude for being nominated, again, for GOTY.
You are disconnected it seems given your reaction to their post, which appears to be very attention-selective. There were nothing "rabid" about it. Edit: basically I'm trying to ask for stuff to change my mind about my opinion of the game. What you've done is scoff at that.

The developers didn't beg for a GOTY. They asked if they deserved one and if they did, asked people who thought they do, to vote for them.
Begging example: Please people! We need the votes! We need the award! Vote us for GOTY!"
Asking example: How are we doing? Do you think we deserve the GOTY? If so, vote for us!
--
I didn't think Valheim deserved the GOTY, but I did vote Best With Friends. I enjoy Valheim quite a lot, but GOTY, in my opinion is reserved for finished games at v1.0. When Valheim goes to v1.0, I will then give them a fair chance at the GOTY award.
