Steam Deck Performance After Updates?

Has any of the recent patches improved steam deck performance? When I played it back in early January, it wasn’t a stable experience even at 30 fps on mostly low graphics. I refunded the game and have been waiting to jump in when deck performance has improved. Has it gotten better?

Please try uninstalling/reinstalling on your Steam Deck. Use the OpenGL (not Vulkan) drivers. If you continue having problems, try joining our discord at https://discord.gg/valheim and we'll help trouble shoot your situation.

I tried that already, OpenGL vs Vulkan, Vulkan performs better for me in comparison, I also tried using the Windows version with Proton, all different launch options etc. no changes. I tried the quirks documented online for changing some unity settings etc. It doesnt solve the problem.

My Steam Deck is fine, it's default configuration no modifications whatsoever, all other games work fine.

Steam Deck Verified means no tinkering and everything works great (it says default configuration has good performance in the verified description which is false it has not). I have been tolerating 20-25fps but I am pretty sure that's not good performance by any means. You want at least 30fps at all times for it to be "good" on a console device.

The game has a problem the developers need to fix, it's early access so I am waiting but Steam Deck Verified should drop IMO. It's at best "playable" if not unsupported performance-wise. Deep Rock Galactic is rated playable and besides some hard to read text it plays perfect at 60FPS at all times.

Yeah, why is an Early Access title even getting verified tag, the performance will always be in some state of flux, and while overspec PC might not notice, the Steam Deck doesn't have much horsepower overhead, so even minor changes can dramatically alter the framerate relative to other patches.

Remember that Valve are the ones checking for Steam Deck compatibility. You should take your complaints to them.

I have reported that the "Verified" tag for Valheim does not match my experience, now I don't know when or how they take it into account.

It looks like lag in Valheim isnt related to output resolution but maybe support for things like AMD FSR 2 might help in some way for the Steam Deck. Considering the textures are already low-res I don't even know if the result is desirable at all, if it's going to look all sharp or blurry..

Latest public test still lags heavily for me in my light base (no big building just bare necessary to progress), 15-20fps is common in there, and in Mistlands frequent drops to 5-8fps after a dozen minutes of play.

Unplayable for me, it's been "OK" until Plains, and I had to accept the 15fps at times which honestly during combat is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to deal with and you die for it, I was still able to progress. But with 5-8fps I am not able to progress. The game misses button presses I cannot even navigate the inventory or get my weapons out reliably (this also happens on ~15fps btw).

So Steam Deck verification is a BIG LIE. If it wasnt verified I wouldnt have bought it and honestly I shouldnt have since the Steam Deck is the only game device I have at my disposal now.

I stopped playing on the SD earlier due to the bad performance and stutter. However, I've tried t again after months and now I'm getting good 40fps with a mix of low and medium settings making the game still beautiful on the small screen. It stutters only shortly when entering a new area with assets it hasn't cached yet.

Overall performance seems good.
