A question about world generation
Hey fellas. I haven't played in quite some time but I am soon going to start a server with a few friends and I. I made a world around the time when the game came out originally with a simple seed I believe and it was nothing ordinary. The world was actually quite flat with just normal generation. However, later on I played on another friends world to help them build and teach them the game but I noticed their world was amazing. They had massive hills and large rivers that you almost couldn't cross without starting to drown a little.
I was wondering how in the world our 2 worlds were so differently generated. Does anyone have any info on this at all? Appreciate any help or info I can get on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I reccomend you to use this amasing mod:
https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1125?tab=description
It will give you ability to create blueprints from your buildings with saving to file and loading to another map. IMHO, better to create new world and replace your buidings from older.

They confirmed serveral times that we wouldn't need to make a new map:
The areas you will explore after the update will contains the new caves and what you already discovered won't move.
... But i'll make a new map, personally.

This mod will allow you to add new things to already explored areas. I used this to add Tar Pits and Onions to the map we've been using, it took some doing, and you have to remember to force a save after adding the new content, but it seems to have worked very well on our map.
Remember to backup your map before trying this just in case!

I would bet 100% when they change the map generation it will require making a new world.

It's safe to assume you'll need to restart if most of your world is explored, but I'd probably wait until the patch notes are released to see what the devs actually say before you restart. I think the devs would prefer not to make people restart worlds, so perhaps not all of the changes will require it.

From what I understand, it will not rework already rendered/explored areas, only those not rendered. Perhaps you can convince your family to start a new seed if you've explored/rendered too much already of your current map? That can be its own fun unto itself.

Somethings can be added to already explored maps, most things cannot, its a good idea and will give you an overall better experience by remaking the server once the update hits.. if you like your map reuse the same seed for map knowledge

Ah yeah, i misread that haha.
If they have changed the terrain generation it could also have an inverse effect on the previous generation in the new framework. I had this happen to me with an old Rust map after an update that added new geometry. It pretty much flattened my island lol
Darn. Thanks for the info though.

Hey Bodean,
Old versions may not be compatible with newer versions it is the nature of games in early/mid/late development.
I can only recommend that people don't get attached to their creations it is just setting yourself up for disappointment. Usually devs will announce when its "safe" to start getting serious on your game because future updates won't brick previous.
I'm not sure if you read the thread fully. I just wanted to know if there was a change in how the world generated at any point.

Did you make a world in like Alpha 1.0 or something, cause that might be the reason.
I was thinking it may have been something like that. I guess i'll have to do some testing with seeds maybe.
