Query on "New Seed"

Wanting to transfer stuff over to a new seed to enjoy Hearth & Home additions and realized I maybe wasting time.

Can we actually copy old seeds to gain access to all of the new features from big updates like Hearth & Home that require it; or, did Iron Gate actually mean entirely new generated seeds?

Was thinking maybe seeds generated before big updates could be locked in so that new enemies spawn don't or something like world changes, but since blueprints and recipes stay due cross world character progression that side of things is fine.

Hoping someone clarify and placate this particular mind goblin lol

There's a mod on Nexus called Upgrade World that will add all the new terrain features to already explored areas. I tried it yesterday and it seems to have worked. Besides Tar I don't know what else really was added but it did add some of those near a base I've had in the plains. You still will have to find a new mountain area I think to get onion seeds, but you only need one of those to grow them.

Thank you all for bringing me up to speed. I'll generate an entirely new seed. The mod sounds like a good idea for those of us with large bases

Any other mod recommendations besides Upgrade World? I've heard of one that allows you to craft with anything in your chests while at a crafting table which sounds like a good QoL feature I hope they implement if not already

Iron Gate has said you'd need to start a new seed for big updates like Mistlands due to the biome additions, and then again recently for this launch to enjoy all the new features-was worded somewhere along those lines iirc

I know when killing a shaman or wolf they dropped their new items of barf berries and wolf's meat, so a copied seed works, just to what extent is what I'm curious about because I don't wanna miss out on anything

Thanks for a swift post, by old seed you mean the copied one, yeah?

My spouse and I started an entirely new seed w/ new characters for H&H. We find the progression the fun part of Valheim though, so maybe we're odd? :-)

We did re-use the same seed generation code from one of our 'old' worlds though. I haven't really noticed anything in changes in the terrain generation, but we're still in the Black Forest tier. Except for harvestable plants being much more common this time around.... We're swimming in thistle, blueberry and carrot seeds. Those are definitely more plentiful in H&H's world generation.

You can use your old seed. The only reason to start new seed or character is to get used to all the little optimisations that you would most likely miss if your already endgame and just chilling.

Old seed will spawn the new locations and items in places outside of about 3 fog of war radiuses, from where the player/s have already explored.

Your only missing out on the progression part and experiencing all the little tweaks done hear and there. It's nice to start new just to really notice what's changed but you dont need to, you can use your pre existing maps and characters and you will still have a blast for sure, I def am

I played a lot on a new seed now and i noticed many small changes. Maybe its just my seed but to generalize i would say the world is now more consitant than before. This means, more buildings in the biomes, "bigger" biomes (not so fragmented like before), more this and that. and it seems they "finished" the mountain biomes. The mountains were playable but there were a lot of problems (boss, too many too small mountains... and so on)..

As i said, maybe its just my new seed i am playing now but i would recommend a fresh seed to start with.
