A foul smell from the swamp

Is this supposed to happen? I haven't even been to the swamp yet but just got raided by a bunch of Draugr. I explored my entire island and there is no swamp on it so I'm currently working on making a new base in a decent area near water so I can explore other islands until I find a swamp.

So is this supposed to happen? I find it odd that I would get invaded by swamp creatures when I have not even been there yet and there is no swamp on my island.

I killed The Elder on a friend’s server so I got the swamp key but never killed him in my own world. In my world, I killed Bonemass before I killed The Elder but I’m still getting the “Foul Smell” event. I’m going to kill Bonemass again and see if that stops the blobs and oozers from trying to destroy my property. :)

Blobs event wont stop , thats a different event from draugr with skeletons that become enabled when kills bonemass in the actual seed you play

I think killing a boss enables a raid type; it doesn't necessarily disable them. I've killed the first four bosses, and I still get wolf, skeleton, blob, troll, fuling... maybe surtling? I think I've only seen drake once, and I haven't seen a greydwarf raid since early in my playthrough. I don't think I've seen draugr in awhile, although I still get the plain blob/ooze raids (both start with "a foul smell").

Raids are never going to stop, so I wouldn't worry about it. They're just a fact of life.

The behavior of raids seems to have changed quietly over the game's updates a bit.
The current info seems to be that they unlock on the previous biome boss and upgrade when you kill the current biome boss. So, at first a foul smell is skeletons and draghr, and after killing BM you get blobs? This is my best understanding from playing and reading the wiki, I could be off on that.
They also raided my home in progress which was little more than the moat and some rocks and a workbench. Not sure what counts as a 'home' for the raids now; never had them attack one with no fire, walls, or anything before.

Those raids never turns off
Only boar+deer , graydwarf army , draugr+skellies , drakes and fuling army turns off when beat bosses
The rest are random and wolf can happen anywhere in mountains and plains
I have almost 600 hours and never got a blob raid , its really working ?

From my experience, and not killing bosses, I still get raids from just building. Ive had Restless Forrest, Greydwarfs - Trolls, Swamp Smell and Wolf hunt on me.

What I found was its location, location, location. I was building close to all those Biomes and had gone into them to collect different materials.

As for AllOutWar76 case, you must have buildt close to a Drauger Village in the Meadows to get that kind of raid. Thats my guess.

I appreciate all the replies to my query. When these raids happen, most of my tamed (level 0) wolves die so I guess I’m going to have to bite the proverbial bullet and tame a 2 star wolf and start a breeding program. I’ve moved my wolves to another part of my island for now.

This is from the official Valheim wiki:
“Defeating The Elder enables “A foul smell from the swamp” (if Bonemass hasn’t been defeated)

I think what most posts are saying is that it doesn’t matter when Bonemass is killed, the “foul smell” event will still randomly happen. Is that right?

Nope , if bonemass is killed will never activates , because its the switch to "stop" for ever that raid or make it work, if you didnt kill elder ( a bad tip because u will have hard time to mine iron without his key , and how did you gathered 10 white bones to summon bonemass ? Only minning mud scrap piles in swamp ? That surely take u a lot of time ) and do it after bonemass only surtling , skelleton and blob will happen ( blobs never happen to me on 2 worlds ) , killong bonemass disable that event and enable others

Yes it can happen, although it is a bit bizarre that you had those mobs when you haven't encountered them yet, when they raided me I had already uncovered a swamp.

its just a random chance you'll be attacked.

Few things, A. Make buildings out of stone. Troll invades are no joke and enemies tend to attack lights and crafting tables they don't tend to care about anything else.

B. If you leave during the raid on your base (which only happens at your spawn point) it will RESPAWN when you come back. Don't leave the area during the fight or the things you're fighting just respawn and attack you again.

I'm guessing beating the second boss triggers it. Now that I think about it, I first encountered the black forest mobs after beating the first boss even though I hadn't been there yet either. So maybe it's the games way of giving clues on where to go next.

Thanks for the tips. It will be a while before I unlock stone though, but I will keep this in mind.

Yeah, it's the bosses that trigger certain attack types. You'll get entirely new attacks every time you kill a new boss, I've noticed they're generally from the biome you need to work on next.

What I did was build the log wall (4 wood ea) around my perimeter, then dug a trench around the outside. Occasionally they attack the doors, but usually I can weather the seige, unless it's trolls. Then you have to sally out.

I have a question. I just defeated The Elder (after I killed Bonemass) and according to the official Valheim wiki page, once you do that The Elder’s death enables “A foul smell from the swamp” unless Bonemass has been killed. I killed Bonemass BEFORE I killed The Elder.
However, today the “foul smell” event happened. I even had the Bonemass ability ready to activate. Do you have to kill the bosses in sequential order? Does this mean I have to kill Bonemass again?
