Trolls
Just got to black forest, having fun, and then aggro a troll that just wanders by when I'm fighting skeletons and he just follows me forever. Turn around and try to fight him and get instantly smashed. Seems very cheap and I turned the game off immediately. What kind of game design is that? Why do the trolls just aggro you forever and never stop following you?
To clarify further, I turned and ran completely out of the black forest and even used the Eikthyr power for high stamina regen and ran for awhile. Troll STILL followed me until I got annoyed and turned around to try and face him.

It's a line of sight issue. Boars will follow you the same way if you don't kill them. Put a hill between you and the mob and they lose interest. That being said, I sorta pity you if and when you make it into the Mountains, or worse yet aggro a Growth in the Plains.

I'm a little jealous of the op. In 3300 game days and very, very many troll attacks I've yet to be killed by a troll. Most of my deaths have been trees, intentionally jumping with unintentionally low hp
Mobs have killed me too but not very often and it was always due to stoopid mistakes on my part - except for my 1st Deathsquito that flew through a treeline that was visually blocking the Plains beyond. "Wut iz dat critter?"
Say, anybody need some spare troll hide? The devs should let us craft giant tents with troll and boar hide.

Mobs will only follow you "endlessly" if you don't manage to put enough distance between you and them... MOST mobs are much slower than player run speed and easy to escape from UNLESS...
1) the player has neglected to maintain HP / Stam bonuses (HP / Stamina "pool") which is gained by eating the best 3 foods possible at the time, (and refreshing those bonuses by eating more when they are about to expire) and allowing their HP / stamina "pool" to drop back down to default 25 points, or LOWER if player took any damage.
2) player allowed the rested buff (increased stamina / hp regen rates) to expire or player has become wet from either jumping in water or by rainy conditions, all of which, stops the regen bonus rates.
3) player spams sprint and/or jump continuously preventing regen to catch up EVEN with Eikthyr buff, constant running, jumping will drain stamina faster than it can regen especially if the "pool" is at the default 25 points or lower.
Sorry but it isn't poor game design, as it is quite easy to escape from trolls (IF you manage your movements properly), and very much a case of bad play on your part.
Judging by your comments on other threads, it's VERY obvious you don't think too highly of the game whatsoever, so I don't expect that any answer in this thread is going to change your opinion of it, but the fact remains that you didn't manage your stamina correctly. otherwise you would have succeeded in escaping and gotten far enough away that the troll would have broke off it's attack.

First multiplayer game I was in had someone start the official base just outside of a Black Forest and eventually a Troll got aggro'd resulting in a ton of vikings punching and dying an angry Troll which after a great deal of deaths managed to succumb to it's many bruises.

Their weakness is in their pathing. It is better to lead them around inside the black forest where they will have to go around trees and rocks that you can fit between. They also walk the long way around fallen logs, and can't jump up steep inclines. By running back to the wide open meadows you made it easier for them to follow you. Stay in the black forest and slow them down on the terrain, then you can get far enough away for them to lose interest. If it's a log troll, they will knock trees down for you and create their own obstacles.

Trolls are awesome for mining and tree clearing if you learn to kite them well. You can pretty much skip all bosses until Modor and avoid a number of invasions.

How it is 'poor game design'?
And not poor player reaction?
Actually the ability to magically lose aggro by running away all while the mob can still see you is bad game design if anything.
Make distance (so they cannot hear you) and use terrain (so they cannot see you) if you are not prepared to fight them.
You can beat them with a basic bow and wood arrows by just kiting them around a bit.

Head on a swivel. If a troll kills you it is because you are not paying attention. You will always see them before they see you. Just get outa Dodge and skill up.

isnt it great? Youv'e now learned that valheim is a dangerous place! They will stop by the way should they get distracted with another enemy or you get enough distance between you and them.

You can take off trolls with a bow ...
Its not a bad design that thing just want to kill you for stay in his territory
And you can drop the agro sneaking with some distance
Looks like you didnt prepared to be there , the game its bosses/crafting based so if you are with very beggining gear and go to the black forest ( next biome where trolls are mini bosses ) then you did a newbie mistake just that

I DID prepare to be there and you guys are clearly fanboys ignoring poor game design by mediocre devs. I prepared in every way, defeated the first boss, and built everything I could. I also ran far away from the Trolls territory and it just kept chasing me.
Face it. It's poor game design. Game devs have had better design than this in games made 30 years ago. Very disappointed in this overhyped PS1 game.

Instead of burning all your stamina running away, especially if he followed you into the meadows, just walk backwards pelting him with arrows until he dies. When he stops to attack you, you just keep moving and you'll be out of his reach and won't get hit. Make sure you always eat the best food you can make and always keep your rested buff up.

It's like in real life. No matter how many times you try to run away from trolls, they find a way to keep posting and posting the same "constructive criticisms".

As i said you can easily can kill troll with a crude bow and flint arrows , if you snipe first hit with distance you can erase 1/2 of his hp
If you see a troll comming use the first boss buff you have and run take distance or high place and snipe that thing

It's always hard the first time. Soon you'll have more troll hide than you know what to do with.
Breath deeply. Imagine a running stream.

Trolls do stop following you, not sure why yours didn't, their leash isn't very long at all.
What you are referring to isn't a bad design at all, quite the opposite. You can't walk into the next biome wearing gear from the previous biome and expect to face tank all the mobs in there.
Therefore, the best way to kill them is upgrade to Bronze buckler (using materials from the black forest) and parry / melee but until then use a bow which is perfectly fine though slow.
Fastest way with a bow is to just stand there, once they swing, step back so they miss you and shoot with arrow and then taunt them to swing again. It's just faster and less stamina consuming than running around the forest shooting arrows. You can also get them to cut trees down for you in this way, useful if you need fine wood and haven't made a bronze axe yet.

Oh, this explains your whining in the other thread.. no wonder. It's simply a git gud issue on your part, sorry.
Trolls are the biggest threat in the Black Forest (literally and figuratively), and until you have fully upgraded Bronze equipment, a Shield most importantly, you are best to learn what they sound like and avoid them at all costs.
But, hey, apparently games with an iota of difficulty aren't your thing.
