I had not played Valheim in over a year. Started up a new character and solo play to get back in the swing. Got my bow killed the stag and got to mining... Ore is now portal restricted...

I'm sure there is some grand reasoning behind ore restriction addition. Maybe they just want players to rely on a third party mod for QoL? Maybe they don't like central crafting hub bases? Maybe they just want to hate on those that play private solo and enjoy exploring?

If i had to guess its the faulty and exploitable nature of the 'Open' system with characters.
Game developers decades in the past eliminate the issue by having an "Open" and "Official" option for play. Open allowing the local save to be used among others online, while the Official used its own dedicated Online save.

Either way, frustration over yet another game with such high potential that has to be saved by modding. Aside from performance optimizations and raw asset additions, the majority of players that continue to play in the long term will be those that play with mods. For a game that is no longer in development and ceased major content/DLC releases, thats perfectly healthy.
