Sorry been asleep!! (yes this is the next step !! but dont need a frost potion per se.. just try jumping mid air then hit esc.. you should freeze mid air... if not file verify

It will only pause while in solo mode. Playing multiplayer, even alone, will not pause with the menu up. For solo mode you just hit play without Server creation or join. You only need the world you wish to play on to be highlighted left side of the screen. If you are in full solo and it does not pause, file integrity check is the next step.

I have died in pause. I think it is hitting pause immediately after spawning in.

I actually logged out in the mountains, but I'm safe in my hut. So, I will probably have to get out and do it. Will do that tomorrow, gets a bit late here. ;)

hmmm "Main Menu" has Changelog in yellow on LHS.. but the "escape" key menu only has 4 options in white letters in mid screen.. with no yellow text at all. If you went to Main Menu you quit the game..imho.. so the last save "a few minutes earlier is probably where you are actually.. If you were in the "escape menu" the game only pauses for solo play not on a server.. which of these happened?

I don't understand the first part of your comment sorry.

I am pretty sure I covered everything you asked in my original post?

As originally stated, I hit escape to go main menu and it was single player.

I actually died and had to run back to get my stuff. I saw the entire death animation while in the menu while in the paused state, usually everything even smoke pauses - so no idea what happened.

The reason I didn't quit right out is because I was just on a quick call and don't see the point restarting the game and wasting all that time for everything to load.

Hitting ESC doesn't make you end up in the main menu. That's why @Cap'n Bells asked. You end up... in the pause menu. Main menu is when you start the game and have the character selection in front of you.

It's probably just a misunderstanding.

My assumption would be that you were actually running a server and that's why the pause didn't work. But this is not the first time I read about this, although we're still waiting on a satisfying explanation if it really happened and if so, why.

Sounds like status effects are not affected by pausing, I bet the timer stops but the effect still occurs which is why you died to freezing damage. Definitely a bug.

Oh I get it, yeh a misunderstanding. I was confused. I just paused by hitting escape as stated originally.

Also not running a server, that button is always unticked and I have been playing alone all week.

I am trying to replicate the bug but it's not easy to do so. I think the bug happens (or might happen) when you log into a game where immediately there is a status effect.

All I can think that I did was just boot the game, I had died earlier and was about to do a corpse run. I was about to take the frost resist potion when I was called. So I paused the game.

Maybe when booting up the game into a status effect the pause doesn't work? I am not really sure. I need to test it out, but I don't want to die again.

Oh so you didn't take the frost potion yet and entered the mountains?

Maybe it froze the game when you were taking damage and just kept giving it?

Well you can watch you health try to pause in the same situation and see if your health drops. You don't have to die.

No effect. I took of my wolf coat and started freezing. Then I paused. Everything - pardon the pun - froze.

The status effect did not continue. This is the second time I read about something that pause really doesn't pause. Not sure what to make out of this, but it never happened to me.

Have you tried logging out in the mountains and quitting the game? Then come in and pause game once you loaded in?

I think thats what I did. I would verify but I am busy atm.

If its any extra info, I was totally naked other than the frost potion in my inventory.
