My Isle of Solitude
If I make a base on a small island, like maybe 1 acre in size, and I completely occupy it, will raids spawn right inside my base? Will they spawn in the ocean and have to swim to me? Will I even get raids? Has anyone tried this and knows what will happen? Thinking of moving onto a little island.

Like I said, if you are serious about your island base you can spawn proof it in a way that nobody will come. Not the drakes and almost certainly not the bats either. I hope there is a way to prevent them completely in the future because they can break stuff.

Yeah i suppose the radius is generous then because with my island base near a large biome i still get these and my island itself has no spawns. I guess i should drop craft tables around the area.Like I said, if you are serious about your island base you can spawn proof it in a way that nobody will come. Yup my base was right at the middle of the ocean, no dry land anywhere except inside the walls of my base Yeah i suppose the radius is generous then because with my island base near a large biome i still get these and my island itself has no spawns. Drakes can still spawns , in events them dont spawns from the ground where the anti spawn range is ( i know that are like spheres but can still spawn in the air , same for bats )Like I said, if you are serious about your island base you can spawn proof it in a way that nobody will come. I was curious about the flying critters. But I got those "cold wind from the mountains" events and no drakes would come. If you get them maybe you still have a place that allows spanws somewhere. In my case the water was pretty deep outside of the area guarded by the workbenches etc. Drakes can still spawns , in events them dont spawns from the ground where the anti spawn range is ( i know that are like spheres but can still spawn in the air , same for bats )

I guess the point I'm trying to make wasn't perfectly clear. My island base wasn't particularly big, but it had deep water surrounding it. In other words, the area guarded by the workbenches etc was not big enough to cover the entire area where the invasion mobs are spawned. Since no flying mobs showed up, I assume it must have been the water that prevented the spawns. Someone who has studied the source code for modding could probably verify or debunk this observation, but based on my experience it seems true.

flying mobs have their spawn trigger on the ground so if a ground mob can’t spawn a flying one can’t either

If you are close to land like a shore they will spawn at the shore and try to travel your island but if your island is tall it will be fine as long as there is no point of access that lead toward your base and they can't destroy stuff, i however have an island with such access but it's still fine because most enemies didn't cause issues so far. still when mistland is out i'm probably going to find an island in Mistland biome that is isolated enough so i can build my gothic House or Cathedral even.

An island base with no room for the mobs to spawn will prevent ALL events. The events will get announced but no one will show up. Not even the flying mobs. I tested this before the frost caves update which added the bat event so technically that coud be an exception but I don't have any reason to believe it is.
I started the base at a site which was completely under water before raising the ground, so you have to be careful to cover the entire area with your constructions in order to get a spawn free base. But it can be done.

thanks I'll let you know how it turns out An isle of solitude works great as long as you cover the island with spawn preventive measures. Raids will happen but the enemies will have to swim to get to you. I like it.

You can get raided by creatures, but if your base occupies most of the terrain I guess only flying creatures will be able to actually raid you. Land enemies can't spawn on water so as long as your island is 40 meters away from the shore you should be good to go.
Land creatures won't spawn inside your base either. To stop raids completely, you could have several islands connected with portals in a way there aren't more than 2 base structures. Example: you can have your bedroom with hearth and bed then go to a portal and move to the workshop island with the workbench and forge, etc. It'd obviously be one hell of a grind but it would stop raids completely.
Or you can make a super fortified tower with all base structures needed somewhere and have your isle of solitude for rest and cosmetic building.

1. Please refer to the wiki for understanding raid mechanics or you can also search on here of course.
2. We cannot tell you accurately whether events will stop either because we do not know the exact conditions of your base construction, workbench coverage, distance your island is from other land masses and more.
3. If your island is extremely far from other land masses it can stop potentially(again per 1 and 2) many spawns of events but not all of them.
4. If you worry too much about events, you can, as mentioned in other threads, build your base on 1 "main" map then make other seeds for each boss fight. This then causes you to only ever encounter the boar/neck event any any one server(until you defeat a boss).
5. There are also other means and methods to minimize the stresses of events too.
