Question about the game
Does this game have any friendly humanoid NPC interactions? For example, can you hire mercenaries who will follow you around? Can you come across a village full of people and build your base around them or even capture them as prisoners and take them back to your base for re-education? Any form of humanoid NPC manipulation at all?
I like the look of the game but I dislike real ppl running around in my sandbox. I read you can have an army of wolves but can you have an army of human NPCs?
Even if it's a mod that replaces the models would do. I don't like the idea of building a big base and seeing all the rooms and halls empty of activity.

There's the NPC trader and you can tame some animals. Also sometimes Odin will pop by to creepily leer at you from a distance. Aside from that, everything else in the world is antagonistic.

There are mods you can download and install that I've seen will add extra mobs/characters in the game. I think I remember seeing one that added human NPC's, but I could be remembering wrong. A quick Google search will help you find mods. Just remember that mods are *not* supported by Iron Gate, but they don't discourage the use of mods either. But you do run the risk of messing up your game and you'll have to then trouble-shoot it yourself (although the modding communities can be very helpful sometimes).

No NPCs in the game.
Just you....and the big empty world filled with graylings and skeletons.
And if you don't like real people, just start an offline game. You don't have to play online.
But brace yourself. This game is slooooooooow. Walking around and stopping every 10m to refill stamina and so on.
With the right foods, and working on your Running skill, you can run for quite a long distance. Or tame a Lox and ride it (they can cover a lot of real estate pretty quick). I have never ever had to "stop every 10 min" to refill my stamina.... it will regenerate while you're walking.

Thanks for the advice. I don't really like the look of the hoops you gotta go through to mod the game though. One mod requires like a hundred others and so on, on top of an unfamiliar mod manager..ugh no thx. I'm not trying to talk you into using mods if that's not what you want to do, but I can say that I use mods. It's actually much simpler than it might seem at first. There's really only one mod that you need to literally be able to use nearly every mod out there. That is BepInEx and I hope I'm allowed to say that here. It's very stable and the modder keeps it updated. There might be one other that a LOT of mods are dependent on, but it's very stable as well. Also you do NOT have to use a mod manager! I refuse to use them myself. I just download them manually (for free) and install them manually which is as simple as dropping a .dll into the Plugins folder.
With all this said, it is worth deciding before you ever start using mods, whether you're okay with the mods possibly breaking or not working for awhile after any update to the Valheim game. Just the cloud update not long ago forced us to wait for updates to some of our favorite mods. Some of the stuff we'd built using them was a bit messed up (or gone completely). It's a risk if you choose to use mods.
I'll also take this moment to say... If you are going to use mods (and heck, even if you aren't), you should regularly backup your game files. I keep 3 backups at all times, and backup every 3 days (I just overwrite the oldest backup).
Either way, I hope you find ways to keep you entertained! I absolutely love this game (with or without mods).

You are welcome to recommend mods and mod managers to one another, it just gets a little tricky if it involves paid services since we can't verify who is or isn't a representative / beneficiary of the 'recommended' (advertised) service.
For everything else, we are just grateful if users include the "not officially supported" warning themselves (as you did). The bug forum is full of users that modded the game with no clear understanding of what issues that might entail, and that just makes for a lot of heartbreak all around.

Yes and no. You need a lot of food and buff consumables which you need to craft and grind for. And they last only for 20min or half hour. So the grind is pretty annoying in this game in that aspect. No NPCs in the game.

And walking for me is equal with stopping. Since walking speed is so slow and most terrain are so rocky or steep, simply walking won't help you.

Not in the base game, but I cannot speak to mods. The only 'friendly' NPC you encounter is the merchant who stays in his camp.
You can tame different animals and use them for resources, mounts or security/extra damage.
I have really never missed having my bases filled with NPCs.
And you do come across villages populated by the undead or goblin like humanoids, but they don't take kindly to visitors so no re-education opportunities.

Ya I know :) I would go back to playing hundreds of hours of Kenshi but the enemies glitching through walls bug hurts too much and it's not getting fixed. Would go back to Rimworld but the 2D slowly gives me brain cancer. Thanks anyway everyone! You don't have to play online.
