This game is all CO-op and not PvP?

Im not into PvP games, but do like Co-op a lot. I dont want a game where I spend a lot of time building a structure and then log on the next day and it has been destroyed. It says that your world is saved on a private server? How does that work? Is it permanent or could someone reset a server overnight or have a problem and then its all gone? Does it save anything local on your own PC?

You host the server on your computer and the game is saved to your hard drive. The game can be password protected so only people you give the password to can join. Only way to do pvp is if you toggle it on in the menu. Players can still smash your stuff though, so you shouldn't invite people you don't know.

Everything is on your pc and you can choose who you let into your world. If you want u can play it as a single player game or explore it with friends.

Great. Thanks. That sound good. I like having it saved to mine. Too bad other players can destroy your stuff. It would be nice to invite others you dont know yet in order to meet new people. I guess you couldnt trust that then.

It's a single player game unless you enable "Start Server" in the menu. Just put a password on it and send invitations to friends. You don't need to host a dedicated server if you don't want to, that's only if you want the game world available 24/7 so other players can join when you're not around. If you just enable the server option in your menu, the world will be online only when you're in it; on the other hand, you can move your characters between worlds, so you can go play on your friend's server any time as well.

That sounds perfect! It would be good to have others on there with me at times. I wouldnt want to leave my PC run all day long, so no dedicated server. I would like a dedicated server but Im scared of the wear and tear on my PC letting it run 24/7.

Being able to put your character onto other servers whenever you want is great. Im going to guess that you only bring with you your character and whats on them? Im guessing you have some kind of bank system where you store extra equipment and crafting materials. Do those come with you as well, or is it only what you have equipped on you and in your bag?

Been contemplating buying this, almost seems silly not because the sales price is so good. Are there many bugs? I have a top notch PC that I just built last year. Running a rtx 3080ti and plenty of RAM etc. I hope that it would run smooth for me with most settings on full and get decent frame rate at 3440x1440?

I get 150+fps on a 3070 everything more or less maxed out except the number of shadow casting light sources. This is at 1080p however. Valheim is CPU bottlenecked often, so you need a decent CPU if you want the smoothest experience. The game has remarkably few bugs. 700 hours in, I've barely seen any.

For early access game it runs very smooth and is practically bug-free.
There is a little stutter when the game is saving progress, and you have like a 30 seconds headsup when it'll do it.

Worst case backup your saves daily. Some turd does just that and you can at least reload the earlier days

You can also run the game on a dedicated server ( if you have an old box laying around ) or you can run it on a service like G-portal. But the game is still secure and co-op (technically you could play PVP but everyone would have to flip the flag for friendly fire. No one can force you into PVP.

The dedicated server route is nice because the world is persistent , you and you friends can log in any time you want.

Ok. Something to keep in mind. How often does that happen? Im guessing there is a save game function as well? Im not sure how most MMOs work, but it seems like it is constantly saving your game and there is no hickup. The graphics on this look more intense though than most MMOs.

Sounds like it is easy enough to do too. So just find where the saves are and make a copy. I did that on the game State of Decay.

Speaking of bugs I would suggest turning off cloud save for this game, and making your own backups if you need them. Its rare, but some people are reporting lost saves and I strongly suspect it has to do with cloud saving gone wrong.

Game save every 30 minutes I think? Something around that. And stutter lasts for a second only.
