What you wish the Merchant sold
I wish he sold Feathers. I primarily use ranged and spending a few hours a night hunting seagulls gets tedious.

That’s very interesting! A spool of thread made from Skaði's own hair, that I might fasten it to a fine spear and pull it back to my hand after throwing.
Like all the other ideas. Especially the half or sells whatever you have picked up and found already. I too have more piles of coins than Smaug the great and powerful.

The trader should sell building material "Packs" so the pack will be weightless or weight like 10 to 1, or variety of packs of stone and woods and maybe just the iron reinforced beams not the raw iron
That’s a very interesting idea!

I like using the mods that allow the trader to sell anything you've held (with certain items excluded....like no dragon eggs or fuling totems or boss drops).
That means that once I've dug up and smelted some iron, I can buy more (configurable, but I think the default is like 200 gold per scrap iron)....There's also the ability to sell some additional items to the trader (at very low prices)....this helps mitigate some of the grind by letting you use alternate grinding methods. Buy those feathers, buy the iron rather than sail to ANOTHER swamp 3 islands away to find another crypt. Get rid of those spare 400 greydwarf eyes, and get 5 wolf pelts for them.
it doesn't skip progression, because you can't buy iron or silver until you've found it, but it allows an alternative grind and a way to delete some of those junk items without chuking them on the ground and hoping they disappear before you walk past them next gaming session.

the I Win Button then ?
Nah, an alternate progression - unless you think dragging 27 dragon eggs to the Trader is an 'I Win' button?
[edit] Also note only buying the associated item, not getting the Head/Kill or the Forsaken Power, just the hard antler, swamp key, wishbone, dragon's tear, whatever. Still have to kill the bosses to 'Win'.
Problem with this idea is that you could then progress without the world progressing with you. So you'd be able to craft every armor/wepons in the game but since the events are dependent on the server tracking which bosses have been killed, you'd be equipped in top gear and would only get attacked by Eikthyr's army event. So you'd be heavily geared and your base would only face necks and boars which would not feel like progression at all.

Yeah it would need to include setting events according to where you spend your time.

I think Haldor selling or Smelting down a buckton of gold coins for a Gold set of armour would be cool... (ok not practical but look cool :-) )

Wish he sold boss drop items that block progression for like 9x summoning items required to summon plus a bunch of gold.

Everything. That way you can buy what ever you want. I have a chest full of fishing worms and a chest full of gold coins plus 3 or 4 chests containing jewels and nothing to spend them on. He could sell arrows, ore, seeds, cores, foods, (maybe spices that increase the health and stamina value of foods they are used in) and just about any thing else. It would be cool if he bought surplus goods like troll hides. There's only so much coal I need from the obliterator.
