Mistlands frustration

I only play in Vanilla Valheim with no mods or god mode etc. So the mistlands is very frustrating. I have died so many times and have had my ships destroyed and lost everything on board. All due to the flying fire breathing blimp. With out that it would not be so bad. Or if you mine Black marble every creature hears it and comes to kill you. They all do massive damage so lots of Stamina so you can run for your life! Stopped playing out of death frustration and losing everything in the water multiple times.

Most of the complaints everyone is raising re: Mistlands were also raised by many players during the experimental test release. None of the suggestions were taken on by the devs before public release of the update, so it's going to stay like it is, like it or not. I wouldn't expect any changes, unfortunately.

Those of us who don't like it will either need to move on to other titles, or use mods.

Worst expansion in any game I have ever played. Blind, vertical terrain, stam starved just trying to move around, every mob 1 or 2 taps you, and dont get me started on the the floating bag of death that always shows up at the worst possible time. They took all the most annoying aspects of the game and compounded them. Food buffs should persist death and the stamina system is just effing stupid in this zone. Wouldnt recommend this game if it were free.

I didn't enjoy it very much at first, but after learning to deal with mobs and what equipment works best, and properly balancing stamina and health with good food, it's alright. Limited visibility and steep and sudden elevation differences make for a pretty unique experience in the game, one that likely won't repeat (far north is probably going to involve plenty of jumping too though).

You can craft some additional equipment that makes surviving in mistlands easier, besides just the wisplight. One existing item is the root harnesk, the others you will unlock by exploring and discovering secrets in the mists.

I ran all over Mistlands forever and thought where is everything? I had to go sailing until I ran into a fog bank. I found a Dvergr base right off. used a gjall to kill them and took over their base. I got lucky as it was right next to a dungeon. Died a ton more clearing out 2 lvls of it. My body is now waiting for me to come claim it once more. Looks like everyone has had the same experience with this new biome. Instead of playing every day now i play once my frustration settles down.

I have found rolling helps a lot when facing multiple seekers, as its 1 stamina drain for an i-frame rather than blocking multiple attacks.

And I would agree Mistlands feels like it needs some balance tweaks, with nearly all the gear upgrades locked at the very end of the Biome's resource progression , upgrades currently capped at level 2, and the armor/damage of the new gear being extremely marginal increases from the best of the Plains tier equipment.

Mistlands is annoying to traverse. Too stamina intensive and the mist shroud is way too bad even with torches / wisp light making it super hard to find anything of value.

Just wasted like 20 minutes and couldn't find any dungeon and I may have missed them due to the mist.

They really need to make some improvements imo.

for the first entry point, use land from another biome, rather than water.

i sailed into my first mistlands as well and it was brutal, i kept getting knocked into the water, couldnt get a foothold at all. seekers, soldiers, gjall, all within 20 feet of shore. couldnt even get a portal up.

I have almost 500 hours in the game so far, and after about 10 minutes in Mistlands I uninstalled Valheim. So, you are not alone.
I can't stand the mechanic of being blind in fog, it's not fun.

Did you make a contained wisp first?

Mistlands has definitely been an absolute slog.

None of the other Biomes have felt this nasty, an even bigger damage/difficulty spike then going from Mountains to Plains with the added issues of no visibility, terrible stamina system combined with the vertical geography, and all the extremely marginal upgrades in gear are locked behind the very end of the Biome's progression.

As others have said, one of the best tips is to always try to land on a neighboring Biome to your target. When you are first hitting the swamps, try to land and build a small outpost in a neighboring Black Forest or Meadow. When you're hitting the Plains try to shoot for the swamp/forest/meadow, so and and so forth.

I almost quit because of the fog, but with the mod to increase wisplight range to something actually useful it became really fun again.

Yeah, after about the 7th time I died in mistlands (all while standing in 2 feet of water I couldn't get out of), I just broke down and installed mods.

Valheim plus, solved a lot of issues in one single mod.

Turned off skill loss on death (some skills had lost almost 25 levels already).
Set it so all items float in water (got sick of looking at loot in 4 feet of water I couldn't reach).
Changed stamina consumption for swimming (now I can swim more then 10 feet).

I am slowly tweaking other settings until it's actually fun again. I don't mind challenging, but the stamina drain combined with the terrain was ridiculous.

In other games, we'd get items & gear to make it easier. Boots with cleats for traction, climbing gloves, etc. You'd be faced with the choice of using the gear, or your much much higher protection armor. But at least you'd have choices. They didn't add anything like that.

There is some kind of feathered cloak that allows you to glide(??) but that requires a whole bunch of loot to get to that stage. By the time you get that unlocked, you almost won't need it.

I was doing okay until the first infested mine, where I was met at the entrance by three seekers and a one star seeker. At least outside I can create space for myself and manage mutliples, but in there I get jammed against a wall and lose all my stamina blocking their attacks. But even outdoors it gets onerous having to battle seeker soldiers and flying puss bags to the death all the time before they destroy your base. I shudder to think that beating the Mistlands boss might unlock these critters to do raids on your bases.
