I've noticed it with several other games. The patch notes link not going live IMMEDIATELY with a patch. I'm pretty sure that's still a steam problem, not a Valheim problem.

Sometimes steam won't even notify you have an update unless you restart the steam client. Sometimes even after a restart of client the notes aren't link, but will be hours later.

that could explain it... i got to the download before they'd added the notes

Patch notes link was there. If you checked the actual download you would clearly see patch notes link on todays patch.

You might be in the wrong forum.

As far as I know, patch notes get posted in announcements/updates, and the downloads are just... downloads. Like, for every game.

That's a Steam thing, not a Valheim thing.
