Me being the eternal tank that I am - that's my preferred method.

Step 1: Stay away from trolls till you've entered Bronze Age (if you come across one - RUN)
Step 2: Once you've entered Bronze Age - get a bronze shield
Step 3: Upgrade bronze shield (just to be on the safe side)
Step 4: Tank away! ;)

Actually, my training room is outside my house and most of the bonus items require mining ore which is exactly how you first meet a Troll. Usually that encounter is abrupt, terrifying, and painfully brief. As a low level character who had only just survived first boss, I was woefully unprepared for my first Troll encounter, which rapidly morphed into my first 5 Troll encounters as I repeatedly strove to (unsuccessfully) recover my awesome flint head spear and leather armor.

At the time, I had searched in vain on message boards and Reddit to find assistance and/or advice on dealing with the problem. One idea made sense. I built a training room to practice weapon skills and made sure I had better skills to deal with the issue. It was the first intelligent advice I had received while reading countless disparaging "git gud" messages from people (aka ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) who do not know me or my situation.

I was fortunate, in finding one person who was able to assist me in recovering my corpse, and offered advice and information on how to be successful. He also has popped by my seed occasionally to assist with a Boss or demonstrate tactics on various biomes, creatures and crafts.

Is it really enough bronze shield (buckler) for parrying troll? (Espesially his AOE attack?)
And how much skill needed?

You really shot arrows at a rock? And that's fun? Just play and use your bow. It's more than enough.

Do you seriously need Elkthyr power to kill a troll... don't think I ever used it for that.


And not a single mention of dodge roll? You know if you jump while blocking you do a dodge roll, right?

Also don't think mounting the head does anything but put a goofy face on your house.

I can waste 20 min of target practice on a rock with no problem. It's called practice, like punching the heavy bag at the gym. Even the Vikings trained for combat and it is built into the game. You cannot damage rocks with your weapons. As the weapons dull you can repair them at craft table. The fire helps regenerate stamina. The arrows use nothing but 40 wood/stack of 100.

I play this game solo and I died when I first encountered a Troll, then died 3 times trying to recover my body. I finally spent a ton of time asking for people on forum to help me recover my body.

If I had spent all my body recovery time training up skills I would not have needed it.

Yes you can dodge but you don't need to dodge if he cannot close with you. I have only one fully functional hand and see no reason to struggle with melee against a troll when I can shoot him from range.

I can always skill up my parry and dodging against necks or dorfs, who don't hit hard enough to kill me.

Well if you want to make it easy you can do it in 3 steps.. you have 10 too many in your easy method.
Dig hole
Put troll in hole
Kill troll or save as pet
