My verdict on H&H

I have now done about 30 more hours of play since the changes, and I entered H&H at end game level. Unlike many I still found the game interesting and would happily grinding away most nights. I have to say I don’t think I will continue any further. I welcome the new items, but the health and stamina/food nerf has been very hard to adjust to. I did try, and in open play I could cope with it, but there have been 2 issues that I just can’t get past.

After the H&H update and then the patch I was playing with 3 friends looking for tar and came across a 2-star furling and in one hit it wiped out four end game equipped players. This was strange and I thought was a one off.

Then last night during a single player game it took nearly an hour of battle to take down Yagluth. It didn’t matter what I used the damage inflicted was minimal and stamina was impossible to maintain even with the best balance of foods.

The developers have taken a fun to play balanced game and totally turned it into something that is no longer fun and frustrating. For me until this is dealt with, I am out.

Let’s hope new players are not put off by what they read because if people stop buying the game the revenue to support the further development will dry up.

Back then, I felt it would be nice if Stamina either had a *slightly lower cost* to use, or that it *regenerated slightly faster*, but was otherwise fine.

Now, *With* the Hearth and Home update, I have noticed a *marked difference* in Stamina use. I have played with both a Late-Game character and a Fresh Character, and in both cases Stamina feels jarringly quicker to spend, and replenishes far too slow in relation to its expenditure. And I am fully aware of juggling different foods for Stamina versus Health, and I have always made ample use of Meads. I'm a middle-aged fat guy, and yet my Viking characters (both experienced and new) in Valheim get winded much faster than *I* do; that doesn't feel right to me, somehow.

In a future patch or update, I really hope that Stamina gets fixed to cost less to use, and/or faster to replenish.

That being said, I *do* enjoy the added level of complexity with new food items and foods that lean more towards Health or more towards Stamina, the added building items are fun, and there certainly a few new interesting items to craft as well.

Overall, I still enjoy Valheim, and to be fair there's certainly love being put into the game, and it's still in Early Development. Some bumps are to be expected, and I'm sure the developers would like to have those bumps identified so they can be ironed out.

The new patch fixed the melee Stamina expenditure. Melee feels much more manageable now. Sweet!

Stam change was a step in the right direction and they are already tweaking it. Keep up the great job, devs!

Yeah still not sure how I feel about the changes, especially as a solo player. While I understand the reasoning for the food changes I'm not sure if they were a good idea in practice or just need more work. As a solo player I need all the health and stamina I can get so I'm always going to to try to buff both as much as possible anyway. Going for a health or stamina "build" isn't really an option.

I smell l2p issue here. You used to how easy this game was. New blobs are brutal? Lure them one by one, wait for it to shoot tar, double roll left or right, run towards them as they won't shoot for couple seconds and smash them.

Personally I'm happy with the changes. Makes a lot of food items worth farming again, as you need different food sets for base, exploring, bosses and general gameplay.

Main complaint I have is that there are no stamina regen items that last long and just slightly increase stamina regen - like a (current) end game mead that gives 15% increased stamina regen for 5 minutes. There is no effective way to increase your stamina regen, just the amount of it. So this could be one more thing to farm specific items for.

In regards to the 2 star fuling, if you don't have health foods it will one hit you but you need to remember that 2 star wolves also almost one hit you if you are running silver gear and the food tiers you have when you enter the mountains. You just currently don't have a next tier to progress to so you can start to not care about 2 star fulings. But I agree they hit a bit too hard compared to the boss, which barely scratches you if you have 100 armor and a resistance potion.
Tasty me/ads helps a lot with stamina regen with no cooldown

I had a very similar experience to you. The Tar blobs are absolutely brutal, especially with the food change, theyre just impossible to stay away from. I tried to solo play and died trying to cross a very minor stream that Ive crossed at least thirty times before H&H. This game is effectively broken for me, and I wish I could rollback the update to before this one.

What you describe about Yagluth sounds similar to my experience pre-update. Should it be easy?

Have you never encountered 2* fuling before? I've spent a lot of time in the plains, and my knee-jerk reaction to seeing a 2* fuling is to run, at least far enough away to ensure that I can check my health and eat if necessary, then make sure I'm prepared. One slip-up and you're dead, even with max armor. It's really the only real challenge for a maxed player.

I don't understand why you would choose two examples that are a tiny fraction of the game to draw such broad conclusions.

"Let’s hope new players are not put off by what they read because if people stop buying the game the revenue to support the further development will dry up."

You're concerned that new players might be turned off by what they read, so you create a thread describing some difficulty you had with the two hardest mobs in the game, that you apparently thought should be easy. Makes sense.

I started a new character, and the new food system is a huge benefit to new players. Being able to eat two meats at the beginning is huge. Having nearly 200 health when entering the swamps is huge. Maybe you should try doing that and writing about it.

Stamina is borked. They need to do a rebalance of stam specifically.
