You can rent a dedicated server or a vps, you can find some really cheap ones that are more than enough to run a small game like valheim. As a bonus you're then not limited to valheim you can put whatever you want on it

That’s what I do, but it still is a server no? I mean I can choose to make it public and people can join it if I’m not mistaken? So what’s the difference between renting a server and just creating one via the game?
