Thoughts on enemies, bosses, and combat

Is everyone else "cheesing", abusing terrain and buggy ai? I'd love to play "legit" but the enemies have so much hp and kill me so fast that it doesn't seem smart to try to play it legit.

the enemies and bosses are just so punishing to take on solo... i feel like every aspect of the game is balanced around a team of 3-5 people

Combat engineering is a solid strategy for this game; identify which mobs are giving you trouble and shape the terrain to give you an advantage.

Got a big mob you're worried about? dig a big hole, drag the arsehole into it, you now have a giant captive arsehole that can be dealt with at your leisure. Worried about the boss for whatever reason? Build, Shape, Dig about the environment to give your self better cover or ways to disengage at will to give your self breathing room when you need it.

Fight on your terms, make them dance to your drum.

I play solo and so I try and max out everything I possibly can before I take on the bosses. By then they are relatively easy. I do admit, I have Valheim plus mod installed but the only "cheats" I have turned on are more forage items upon pick up (berries), all dropped items float, and no damage taken to my builds (since I am solo I don't have time to be rebuilding everything.) This set up gives me more time to focus on character development and preparation for my next boss.

My advice would be to make sure your current biome enemies are easy to kill before to take on the boss. Typically I make sure the biome is a walk in the park before I take on the boss.

Never really cheesed anything beyond trolls in the early game. There's very little need to do so. If anything kills you "so fast", it is usually an indication that you're not prepared for the given enemy with an appropriate equipment and/or lack the combat discipline - knowing when to parry and counter, when to dodge, and when to disengage. Different enemies have different behaviors to evaluate and different vulnerabilities to exploit, so sometimes you may want to use a different weapon or a tower shield, and you should always have some consumables that you have not felt needed previously.

Either way, all biomes are balanced to be difficult becoming more and more trivial with the acquisition of the associated gear, and bosses are balanced to be a marginal challenge with the full kit and appropriate combat technique. Given that, you're lacking in either of those two aspects if you're having a problem dealing with the game solo.

I still have to see any interesting, not lackluster made boss fight in this game.
Its really just a 16 bucks game. The boss fights show. Sadly

Didn't cheese anything in the game, enemies and bosses are pretty manageable. Have beaten every boss including the queen solo.

The only tip i can give is, don't run in the early game and you'll be fine.

Everything feels fine to me. Unless you get unlucky and meet a 2-star enemy before being properly geared for that area, most enemies die in 2-3 hits. Once your armor and meals are decent, you can usually take about a dozen hits before dying. The enemies really don't stand a chance.

Bosses are super easy, too. Tanky as Hell, but simple. Block their one or two attacks, smack it several times, wait for stamina, repeat until it dies.

Haven't fought the queen yet, but I hear she's at least a threat. 'Bout time, if you ask me.

I get wrecked every time. I am in wolf armor 2 star, is that not good enough I take it? I have padded armor too but I hate moving slow.

Good enough to take what? And personal skill often plays a large part in what people find easy or difficult. There are some that think meeting a pair of greydwarfs is an unfair, impossible challenge.

Depends what you consider cheese.. I kill EVERYTHING with arrows.. so.. is that cheese? I don't know.. long range attacks just seem to really suit me.. Most things never even get the chance to hit me. T4 Drauger bow with ice, poison or hell needle/obsidian arrows spanks. Sure it might take 50 to kill a soldier.. but damn it.. I'm gonna kill that soldier.

Its not cheese. Its old school gaming. The devs have programmed the creatures to telegraph their attacks (and each creature has a different sequence/set of moves). Once you know how those creatures make their attacks you can devise ways to counter/defend. That's not cheese that's good old school game theory from back in the arcade days.

I feel like you are meant to take every advantage you can think of to fight the bosses. I built huge earth towers to fight the swamp boss. I dug tunnels beneath the summoning alter to fight the mountain boss. I walled in the entire area to fight the plains boss. Actually that one was the most legit fight I did and let me tell you I felt like a god when I killed it.
I'm just saying that anything you can do within the game is fair play. No such thing as cheese here
