Died tripping over a rock
I though this weird bug had been gone but last night I was descending a hill and I came down off a rock that was waste height and died. It’s no big issue retrieving my gear but it’s an issue that has happened in the past to me. Just curious if anyone else has ran into this.

Once I was gliding down a hill and I bumped into a small stone/relief and my character got propelled into the air and died on the fall.
Something similar happened to me chopping down a tree. I guess I was too close to it and when it fell it had a trampoline effect because it rested on another tree and sent me flying a bit in the air. Fortunately this last time I didn't die as I had over 100 health. I tried to repeat it so I could recorded but after several attempts I couldn't do it. I guess they're very rare occurances.

Jump skill increases your max height.
It does not increase your max fall.
Oops.

I think we have all died by simply forgetting to eat whilst building, especially early on. Stepping off a small wall and seeing my life flash before my eyes.
At least I needed to learn that lesson several times ...

Whenever you jump, you can see the toll it takes on your health. I have died by jumping (and every variation of every method possible) and when I had a chance to notice the health bar I always knew I was about to die.
When I die unexpectedly, I just assume that's the reason.

That isn’t what happened and it wasn’t food stinginess. I was descending a mountain and was using step stones to slow my descent. I was stepping off a stone to start another slide and instantly turned into a tombstone with no slide or fall. I had something to the tune of 90+ Hp blood pudding, fish wraps and eyes cream. i think i know what OP is talking about but honestly the solution is to just not be lazy or stingy with food. even when you are just messing around your camp, farming or building, you should always have good health and stamina. its like leaving the house with clean underwear.

This is exactly why it's important to stay fully fed at ALL times, even during times when everything seems peaceful and "safe",... Almost anything can hurt you, even walking on a hill.

Yeah, there's a lot of things that can go wrong in a hurry if you get complacent and skip food "because x thing I'm doing right now shouldn't be dangerous." After a close call or two (plus a few friends dying during construction projects lol) I got into the habit of keeping all 3 food buffs on me. Even red mushrooms and 2 different berries is better than nothing, but something like cooked deer/boar/neck meat + boar jerky + honey gives decent stats for how easy it is to make. Though I do recommend upgrading the "cheap/lazy combo" as you get better food, because suddenly having to fight off a late-game raid with early game food is not ideal.
And yes, I know 1 high HP food + 2 high stam foods is probably better for non-combat stuff, it's just that if you are feeling stingy and don't want to waste "the good stuff," it's easier to get into the habit of staying buffed all the time if you start with meadows meats and honey, both things that you should easily get a surplus of pretty early on, unless you have a hard time finding beehives.

When it comes to appropriate high level all purpose foods to keep one alive, in my experience in every situation I choose to consume Wolf Skewers, Bread & Turnip Stew. They get my recommendation mainly because it takes a minimal amount of effort procuring the materials to make them.

It happens in many games that have fall damage, it's called "skipping to death" and it's always because of damage applied to vertical surfaces and the physics of movement.
Skipping to death happens like this:
You're running down hill. The hill isn't a single vertical surface, it's hundreds. Because of how the movement works in these games, sometimes you don't touch the horizontal surfaces (thus resetting the damage accumulation) you are technically falling the entire time, thus when you actually fall more than 1 meter in-game you finally touch a horizontal surface and all the damage is finally calculated and you just die.
Guild Wars 2 had this problem after an update, you'd just be running down a not-steep hill and die from fall damage, it was finally patched.
It seems to be pretty rare in this game, I've never died from it (been damaged by it) but I know that it can happen simply because of how the game works.

Yeah it may have been the inclination I was on. I took an extended break from the game and forgot my climbing skills haha

Never had that happen. How much health did you have at the time?

This has happened to me on more than one occasion.
One time I recall I was in one of my main bases which is terraced. I was jumping from one level down the lower level which I had done hundreds of times. The height between the two levels is only about 1.5 x's the height of a character, but when one runs and jumps they can get quit a bit of hang-time in the air, multiplying the vertical distance of travel by 4 or 5 x's. Normally my character would lose about .25 of its health, but on the occasion I died my food had expired. It was actually really handy having a tombstone with its massive inventory slotting situated in the middle of 3 buildings: hearth, bed & cookhouse; repair benches & smelters; portal hub.
On the majority of occasions death by jumping has occurred on steeply inclined mountain sides. On most of those occasions I already had a slightly diminished health pool while fleeing from an attack by multiple enemies. I have learned from experience to avoid jumping while quickly running downhill on steep inclines. Jumping while travelling downhill massively increases the vertical distance travelled

i've died when running down a steep mountain, w/out having to jump, when i ran off a small rock. i caught enough air and the mt was steep enough that i dropped quite a ways. health must have been below 100 at the time too, but don't recall.
now if i run i do so at an angle and avoid all rocks.

At a certain decline, you will cease to run down and start to skip down which will chip away at your health rapidly, no jumping needed for it to happen so watch your health. The moment this starts to happen you need to make a mad dash back upwards.
