Tamed wolf despawn

I just spent 2 hours taming a captured wolf only to have it despawn when I walked, within sight range, to loot a deer for more meat for my pup. I have a pen built on the edge of the mountain and lured the wolf in. I tossed meat in and tamed him over time. I saw a deer in bow range, shot, and killed it. The wolf was in his pen when I ran to loot the deer, and gone when I came back to throw in the meat. He was tamed and told to stay. There we no holes so he did not escape. No loot so he did not die. He's just gone. I know this is early access, but this is quite annoying.

Nope to this
You can still tame 1 and 2 stared wolfs at night if you are sneaky or fast , i did it making a little hole and pushing then in with parry their attacks ( full silver shield and wolf armor , 2 high hp foods because buffed doggies hit very hard )
You most feed them as fast as you can because even if them are in the hole and not start the tame process ( eating your food ) them will despawn when dawn is come ( getting out of that zone )

There should be a way to resurrect your pet or at least let it self heal. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was that all my planning and work (taming the wolf) went up in smoke within minutes.

git gud. stop resurrecting year old posts.

Yeah, tip # 1 for tamed wolves: Don't bring them to the swamp, unless you've bred a sizable pack, and don't mind losing a lot of them along the way.

Even 2* wolves have a difficult time in the swamp, they're very susceptible to poison.

Tip #2: Don't bring your lone tamed wolf *anywhere*. Keep it in a well-defended pen at your base, tame a second one, and keep at least a base pair to use as breeding stock.
What He(Estyn) said. You spent the 2 hours taming the Wolf, take the time to breed them and will be as planned. lol

Yeah have had multiple wolves just despawn so many times, always fun spending time taming 2 stars just for them to either despawn or just walk away when released.

That's working as intended that you learn the strengths/weaknesses of mobs vs tames.

If you had been more conservative, you'd've moved the fresh tame safely to a breeding pen. Going near a swamp typically isn't considered a safe route.

Also wolves are pretty weak against damage over time like poison fire etc and aoe attacks(when you've a bunched pack of wolves that'll take down the pack fast).

All in all this was a survival learning experience really not a fault of the game's design implementation.
