Stalled game, banking on new players.... not new content... or not? Whats your take.

7months since any action.. but they sure were working on getting more players by adding consoles, and chinese.
Heres our game, we are working on it, but were not really working on it, so it seems.
Anyone else feel its dead in the water, but they are trying to sell it on as many angles as they can before they bail out.
Thats the vibe in getting.. ooof. glad it was only 20 bucks
What you think about it, dead or not?

I think the whole process is entirely normal

-Valheim blew up
-Development had to shift to stabilize the rapid player base and offer bug fixes
-They had full intentions of making bosses for each zone and fleshing out each zone to begin with, which is why those zones existed in the first place
-Early Access players offer feedback and suggestions
(this goes back into development)
-Updates are not as fast because it's an Early Access game. Basically, you are paying to play a version of the game that's essentially what would otherwise be a playable version of the game at the Development studio. You won't get paid to "play" the game and test it, but you will get a discount on a regular game debut price, and you only need to offer feedback. You do not have to lend your time to working on the game.

Essentially it's a bargain that some studios do when they make essentially an indie game where they're unsure if it's desirable before more development is made.

I've gotten all my money's worth out of it...especially when playing co-op

It's not dead but porting to consoles will delay and slow things down even more; Just looking at the bugs forum can show you that.

Personally, I do think it was a cash grab, but dead... no.

The pace of Valheim's development is somewhat irksome. But not nearly as irksome as the constant whining about it.

Max clients on unmodded game is 10.
This game is not an MMO ... it is a solo / co-op with friends... PUGs do not exist here unless you want all your stuff stolen or ruined by randos.

My 2 cents of dev time.

I think they are doing the best they can.
There is a bit of a balancing act going on behind the scenes. Not sure if they realize it or not or I may just be off base on this...

But I think it is going something like this...

They put out a game and had the roadmap.
With the roadmap they probably planned the console expansion around that timeframe but it became unrealistic.
It became unrealistic initially due to sales and bug fixing.
After a while I think they became swayed by consumer opinion.
I have seen a lot of things suggested get put in the game. Considering the timeline initially set I think a lot of this stuff was unplanned and done due to suggestions.
But in trying to please everyone they kind of got bogged down.
I don't think it is a bad thing, as they have done a lot to flesh out the systems and build the foundation... but dealing with all the players wants really took a lot of development time.

Frankly I feel bad for the devs when I see people complain.. I think the devs really are doing what they think everyone wants as best they can.... but working on suggestions for existing content will take away time from new content.

In my opinion the devs have done it right... but people looking in as uninvolved consumers can get the wrong idea easily.

This is pretty typical for an early access game from a tiny dev team. I think the stuff they've released so far is so good that it attracted a lot of people who aren't familiar with small, unfinished games, though. People who played Witcher III, Assassin's Creed, and Skyrim, and think every game is like that. I got almost 200 hrs out of Valheim even in its unfinished state, so I think if anything, the devs should have ended it where it is as opposed to adding the next three zones.

its not dead they just had to take a ♥♥♥♥ load of time to make it console ready and put it on gamepass so content should be coming shortly hopefully making a game for pc is one thing but then taking that and making it into a console game is hard then making it crossplay between both is a bit harder so it took quite awhile to do. cant blame them for wanting that microsoft money kek. thats my theory anyways. a game theory. thanks for watching

I think you're not anywhere close to reality. It's a healthy early access title under full development, getting a chunky update later this year. Expanding to gamepass/xbox and Chinese is only rational at this state.

All too often these threads keep appearing where some impatient player decides that since the game isn't progressing as they hoped, they call it "dead" or "abandoned", and even going as far as OP here, talking like the devs are getting ready to "bail out" without a single shred of evidence to back that up.

The devs haven't worked any faster or slower than they have all along, as they have always stated that they would be working "slow and steady", and NOT rushing out content just for the sake of putting out content. They intend to release content WHEN it's ready, and not before that.

In case you haven't noticed, the content they have released so far (the entire first half of the game) is highly-polished and virtually bug-free, which is almost unheard of for an EA game in this stage of development.

You do you... if you aren't satisfied with development or too impatient, then simply go play something else until more content comes out. or wait until full release (couple years?), but there's no reason to start spreading false information, such as suggesting that the devs are crooks about to bail on the game and run off with the money.

I also want to point out that Iron Gate did not port the game to console... another team did that, so it's not like the devs stopped development to go work on consoles or something...

The new biome will be here eventually, and it will likely be just as good as the rest of the content, if not better.

I agree 100%.

most of the issues with update speed can be traced back to the original roadmap, which was much too ambitious in retrospect.

since they recognize their updates are few and far between, i think mistlands will have a lot of other tweaks and changes, just like hearth and home wasnt limited to just food and building materials.
