Stung for the last time

68hrs in, take a boat ride and end up in a desert, get of boat and some wasp thingy stings me once "dead" I tried sneaking in area and other ways, but same result. I have full metal armour on but it doesn't seem to count for anything? Are you punished for playing single player?

Also, I wear fully upgraded troll leather pants and chest for the speed bonus, and a metal helmet and its fine in the plains. Prevention of damage by being fast is far superior to being a slow tank in this game, if you want to have fun at least. And using the spear and shield is going to make it the easiest to avoid ever taking hits.

I feel your pain. We oddly landed on the plain BY MISTAKE and the first thing that killed me with just 4 level troll armor was that pesky deathbug. Yikes. So my goal was to make root armor, chest and helmet which I did...that helps in the swamp. #2 goal was the draugr bow...omg what a game changer. And now I have a silver sword which btw is another game changer. I am stoked! Really ready when we kill the mountain boss and get to the plains.

You can fully parry them with a level 3 bronze shield, but it's not recommended for rookies. :D In SP, just learn to recognize the plains coast and stay far away till you have at least iron level equipment. And yes, I've been popped by many a deathsquito in my time, both in SP and MP. You learn (eventually) to respect 'em, and the plains in general.

You will feel bad when you realise you literally just block when the deathsquito about to hit you and then swing once. They are actually a completely easy enemy once you know how to fight them.

Simply boat there, build a teleport nearby in case you fail again so you can port back, then just kill the mosquitos with parrying or snipe them from far away

I think the first shield to be able to block the deathsquito bite is the iron banded shield, but it needs to be combined with a full iron or root armor to be most effective. And of course the best swamp food.

If you're still in bronze age: good luck.

you know its there. Find it and shoot it before it sees you.
This has nothing to do with single player. Those are the highest level normal enemy in the game (things in the plains biome, that is) and they will flatten you same as a wraith will melt someone just starting out in the meadows or a grey dwarf brute will smash a guy wearing skins and wielding a stone axe. These enemy are all fine single player if you are at the appropriate gear & food level to be fighting them.

So, I did an experiment... you know, in the name of science!

I ventured to my personal plains right outside my tavern, wearing nothing but lvl 4 troll armor, a lvl 3 iron banded shield and my trusty abyssal dagger.

Food was fresh blood soup, sausages and a muckshake. That gave me initially 145hp. Which is actually pretty good for just swamp food.

Deathsquito couldn't hit me.

So, if you have an iron banded shield, you should stand a fair chance, once you got swamp food that is. :P

Edit: Your first iron equipment really should be the shield. If it holds off a deathsquito, it will hold off everything in the swamps as well.

I expected as much. Once you get to the swamps, use the first iron to make the iron-banded shield. Kill at least two abominations for the root armor. Mask first for poison resistance, chest next for the important pierce resistance. Deathsquitos should be no more of a problem then.

Good food is of course always a requirement.

Edit: A few survival tips for you:

Ah, the dreaded deathsquito. Many have felt its sting before they were fully prepared. "Full metal" doesn't really say anything, do you mean bronze?

Then indeed, this will not help you at all. You need either at least the root chest (better), or at least a full iron armor (not as good) to somewhat take the, ahem, "sting" out of the deathsquitos bite.

And, of course, you always have to be fully fed with the best food your biome has to offer, or no armor in the world will help you.

If you landed in the middle of the plains area, with no easier biome close by, your chances of getting your stuff back are slim, but not nil.

What you need is a new karve, and a new outpost as close to the plains biome as you can get. It doesn't need much, just a fire, a workbench and a portal back home.

Pop through the portal fully naked with just one good weapon and fully fed. If you can run to the spot you died, do so. Otherwise you will have to risk another boat.

Once you got to the spot where you died, swing wildly at any skeeter who's trying to attack you. You gotta time it right, but when you hit them, they will die immediately. They don't have much health. I think a knife or dagger is the best, since it is very fast.

Grab your stuff and haul a** outta there as quick as you can! Preferably over land, because boat is initially slow and you can still be attacked by the deathsquito.

Oh, yeah. And avoid any of the other denizens of the plains. You really don't want to meet them right now. Try to give them a wide berth. You can outrun them, but Lox are VERY persistent and wreck anything in their path.

Good Luck and welcome to Valheim!

Mobs have lower HP (and I THINK deal less damage) in single-player... But there are tons of practical benefits to multi-player, yes.
