Critter cap question

Good day,

Currently I have a boar pen set up in a Meadow bidome, this is the same Meadow that I'm scouting for 2 stars boar.

As I understand it, each zone / bio dome has a critter cap / total for it. I'm hunting the zone killing everything I see trying to get more boars to spawn and hopefully that shy 2 star piggie.

I found some 1 star boars (4 total so far) and currently in the process of taming them. After they are tamed and start breeding, will they count toward that critter cap for the Meadow zone they are in??

Thank you.

Never heard of a critter cap, but i got a pit with about 50 ** Boars and something like 20 ** wolves. As far as getting ** Boars, the farther out from the center you get the higher chance you find a Stars. I ended up having to make a Base in the ass end of the map, cus thats where I found them XD

Current run found ** Boar at one of the 'Boar stones' on the starting mega-island. Built a pen around the stone. It is still early in that run and I'm taking it at a slow pace so just been culling them down to a single pair of ** boars rather than build more pens. I'm a bit of an ambivalent herder, guess I should move a pair to another location as a backup.

...so you just keep eliminating the respawns until the RNG spits out some *'d ones...it's how I cycle thru the 'encounter list' for resources in my borderline Plains/Meadows biome base. If you stay in one area long enough and eliminate all the nearby spawns as they instance, you can start to see the list of encounters/spawns pattern. First you'll get Squitos, then some Fulings, then some birds, then some Lox, etc...First some deer, then some boars, then some GD's...etc. You gotta kill them all to trigger the respawn...rinse/repeat.

The tame critter cap seems to have been set by Loki, God of Mischief, at around infinity or whatever kills your computer first. I cranked out about 200 **boars once and 7-12fps was the result. Fortunately my gaming skill set includes playing ARK on a very low end laptop while business traveling so I could keep my structures from decaying due to the timer limits lol. It was pretty similar to stop-action photography and in the single digit fps realm.

After I decimated the boars with the butcher knife my knife skill was noticeably improved. It hadn't occurred to me that would happen so it was a happy wtf moment.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. The cap I'm curious about is for the wild critters in the zone/biodome not the tame pigs in the pen.

If the tame pigs count towards the critter cap I will need to kill all but one until I find the 2 star boar.

If they don't, then I can get a head start on the breeding program.

Thank you.
Wild boars Has a top of 4 each 64mx64m patch ( as global respawn works )

Th cap is six. I'm pretty sure that cap is consistent for all tamable critters. If there re six of them within five squares breeding will stop. The trick is to separate the herd from the breeding pair by at least five meters. There are videos on YouTube on how to do this automatically and grow yourself a very large heard.

yeah, if you have a good wolf breeding operation going, they make an effective defense system for your base. You'll end up spending a lot of time feeding them (a good boar breeding setup is most helpful for that) and picking up all the swag lying around.
