I have watched several videos of people repeatedly, and very quickly raising ground by standing in one spot to reach maybe 18 levels high, and make a single column. They do it so quickly I think their must be a repeat command.

How old are the videos? they changed how the terrain system can be manipulated not long ago due to it causing serverwide lag or something.

You can go straight up still, but you do not have the spikey column of old. You can build your way down on one if you have the workbench nearby enough.

Build 26 degree roofs if you fall off? Or have crazy precision landing when you jump before raising the ground, standing still and raising the ground usual knocks me off

yeah use 26 degree roofs. i regularly use them as scaffolding.
