Watch your toes in knee-deep water, the leeches will rip them off. Bring poison resist potions, and recommend a good blunt weapon for deleting blobs, and to deal with the boss once you get that far.

I have lost about 90 ingots of bronze in total from just two minutes being OFF SHORE of the swamp on a small outcropping.

Every new biome is an increase in difficulty. So best advices entering a new biome are: be careful and have a backup set of armor/weapons.

I have a backup set it's just gonna take me about an hour to sail my ass back to where I died.

It's a good idea to set up a basic hut at the outskirts of the swamp with a teleporter to quickly get back there.

So what is the difficulty rating on each biome? Meadows being 1.

Oh you think the swamp is hard? You're going to love the rest of the game.

On a scale from 0 to 10?
Meadows 1 (or more likely 0)
Forest 1
Swamp 3
Mountain 2
Plains 5
Mistlands 8

This is just my personal opinion and experience.

I feel the difficulty rating basically keeps bouncing from like 4/5 down to 1/5 as you work your way through it.

When you first arrive, everything is a threat. Then you craft new armor and it's a bit easier. Then you get a better weapon and it's a bit easier. Then you upgrade your foods and it's a bit easier. Then you upgrade your weapon and armor to max level and it's a bit easier.

Then you arrive in the next biome, and repeat the process.

I guess like they‘re supposed to be entered in following order:
1 Meadows
2 Black Forest
3 Swamp
4 Mountains
5 Plains
6 Mistlands
Not quite sure where to put Ocean, depends on how many serpents you‘ll get.

That is a very basic and quite frankly artificial lengthening of the game; still early access and am eager to see what is next.

Every biome offers bountifully new materials and most of them are of use when you prepare for the next biome. you'll get absolutely wrecked if you try to skip biome. Even those that have played the game "through" and start a new world& character will be pressed really hard if they try to skip a biome. It is doable but not recommended

Happened to me when I first went searching for swamps. I never dock near swamps now because leeches will destroy your ship while you're trying to get a base camp set up. I always look for a nearby black forest or meadows rather than camping directly in the swamp.

Now at least you didn't have your buddy chop down a tree which then smashed your ship and left you stranded without your portal materials halfway across the world, cause that's my story.

Wait until the mistlands. You carry capacity gets wrecked back to 300 there (Assuming you have the belt to carry 450). Even more back and forth to unload. Hurray for more artifical lenghtening.

I'm going to rate these based on if you have that biomes gear or not.

Meadows no gear: 4 (night +1)
Meadows full gear: 1 (night +0 to +1, night spawns vary as you progress)
Forest meadows gear: 5 (mostly for trolls) (night +2)
Forest full gear: 1 (night +1)
Swamp forest gear: 6 (night +3)
Swamp full gear: 1 (night +1)
Mountains Swamp gear: 6 (night +4, if 2-star wolves spawn)
Mountains full gear: 1 (night +2)
Plains mountains gear: 7 (night +1)
Plains full gear: 2 (night +1)
Mistlands plains gear: 4 (night +1)
Mistlands full gear: I'm not there yet.

It's really hard to rate, but oh well.

EDIT: from Swamp onwards if you don't have previous gear difficultly will be a solid 9 or 10. Bad luck also happens, more so with less experience - e.g. parking boat near leeches.
