Incredibly boring
I'm not getting why people find this such a killer title, what am I missing? I've tried building a house - a small one was OK, large one gave me incredible pain when random panels just falling down because it was too large. Fine, can handle that. Attacked the Stag monster, was OK in terms of a battle. Very boring after that. Where's the great enjoyment from all these glowing reviews come?

Sounds like it might not be your kind of game. Exploring and building are the two main aspects.

Yeah possibly, I normally enjoy those types of games. The house falling down issue annoyed me I guess, and not really getting into the grind yet. Will give it more time.

Out of, what is it, 7-8 million copies sold, theres bound to be a good chunk of people who decide the game isn't their cup of tea, and won't see the enjoyment in the game that others have... It's really all subjective on whether someone enjoys it or doesnt enjoy it... From your description, it seems like you didn't get very far into the game before making your decision, and it's fine if you think it's boring.... Other players have put in probably thousands of hours and find it quite fun. I, myself have over 500 hours between 2 accounts and while i don't think it's the "best game ever", it certainly isn't bad, especially if you actually play it through all the content currently available, before discarding it as "boring".

The structural integrity system does take some time getting used to, and even after you do it can still be somewhat annoying at times. Yeah possibly, I normally enjoy those types of games. Giving it more time sounds like a wise move. Perhaps you will discover the enjoyment so many others have.

Jokes aside.
The is likely not for you, if you dont like building and exploring, there is also the farming aspects like normal farming or grinding wood and stuff.
People enjoy different things, and all the people who liked this liked exploring and fighting and grinding, or just been a cog in there group, 1 hunter, 1 gather, 1 explore, 1 builder.
Its best played with friends, and there is a ton of mods, but if you dont like PvE games with semi survival then this is not for you.

I actually felt the same way after making my first house, fighting the first boss, what's the point, it's a massive grind? 734 game-play hours later i have a castle and fully upgraded gear. The game becomes very addictive once you get past the early grind.

have you noticed the colors of building parts changing colors, if you pay attension to it you can build huge houses. you cant just add pieces to structure that is already stressed/red.
also sounds like youve not even explored or been off the first island, i was only hooked after i did the first boss and the new materials opened up a load of different stuff.
also look at the wiki to help you. its stop from getting stuck, i missed unlocking core wood and had no idea what i was missing out on to progress

This also pissed me off when I first started playing - pissed me off so much I muted myself and roared in frustration as my ceilings repeatedly crumbled lol. The soundness of any structure you make is contingent on your ability to create a solid foundation and supports. As you progress, you gain access to more stable building materials that will allow you to build taller structures.
Building in Valheim is meant to be very different from The Forest or 7 Days to Die or something. You can make very impressive structures, but it takes patience and planning. My group is about 2/3 through the current progression, and we've barely scratched the surface on building.
If the building mechanics are too tedious for you, or the exploration bores you, then I agree with others - this game is a sunk cost and you may as well quit before you lose any more time to it.

There are several aspects in this game, and there are several way to play it. Perhaps you enjoy the action part in this game when you find out where to be and how to trigger it (e.g. by imposing challenges on you). As for me, action only spices up the rest, and I'd rather consider Valheim as an excellent time killer game: you play how you want for the duration you want, all your progress and doings are saved, and the number of activities is pretty high, even early in game. You can call this repeatitive, or boring, or grindy. I call it a very nice time killer. My position would be totally different if graphics were not so good, because I'm a contemplative person, and can just appreciate moving in a pretty frame. Also, I prefer to play this game with near max details and less FPS than the other way (if I have no choice).
For example, you can reconnect and decide to prepare for exploring a new area (without expecting anything new, but more resource to collect, and some thrill in the underground), or you can just roam "your" domain to collect whatever resources come at hands, and tease mobs (if you spared some spawners), or building a new and barely useful watchtower or a farm, or just decide to dedicate this gaming session to some exclusive activity (e.g. you need bronze to built a second ship to anchor near the starting location, and you want it NOW)...

Yeah fair call, I mean the building mechanics are annoying, to me the structure requirement doesn't add anything in terms of fun - it did take a while to work out why they were just falling down though, no hints as to structural integrity.
That aside, not really digging the other side of the game but I guess thats OK. Just surprised at the rave reviews.

Yeah I probably need to give it more time, its been a bit limited so far. Just feels kinda empty so far, and multiplayer is no doubt a far better experience. I understand there's different biomes etc and you need to explore.

In all honesty, I don't think I would play this game solo either. I know many folks do, but the collaborative aspect is one of the things I like best about it. I would be bored solo. When I used to play most solo games, I like a clear plot, interesting combat mechanics, and unique NPCs - think Witcher III, RDR2, AC4. Valheim is an excellent open world, but does not really feature any of those by design.

There are hints. With hammer in hand, if you mouseover building parts, the parts will turn colors. Green means well supported; red means close to collapse. Blue means supported by the ground. Structural integrity naturally degrades as pieces get higher off the ground. This limits how high you can build things.

Also, it's a simple, yet parameterized, physical system: roughly, you just have to count how many same blocks/beams you are from nearest blue block. This is only a first easy insight, as distances between mass centers are actually computed (e.g. 2x1m vs 2m blocks), and angles also play a role; follow the link below for more details. Additional reinforcements won't work if they don't shorten this distance. Moreover, as far as wooden blocks are considered, distance to ground (blue level) is reset as soon as they connect to stone blocks or better (follow link below to understand why). That means that you can build a wooden shack on the very top of a ruined stone tower, etc.
An excellent reference with game data:

Visual depiction of max beam spans:

Don't forget that a wooden roof is required, so actual max height is reduced! For example, using a core wood frame, a 8mx8m tower can have a 4m high basement, two 3m high floors, plus a comfortable attic under the roof.
