Can a piggy fit through a one block hole?

I finally found a 2 star boar that I didn't accidentally kill and figured I'd set up a breeding pen. I've seen elaborate setups with towers and such but I thought I'd just have a small building to hold a breeding pair with an opening to let the little piggies out. That way I just have to feed the parents. But so far, I haven't found any way to let them out and keep the parents in. Is it not possible?

Is there food outside for them to encourage them to be outside?

I put some food down to see if the adults would try to get through the hole. They ignored the food even though hungry. Piggies aren't hungry so it wouldn't work on them.

You can use one of the shutters. The boars can't go through them. The piggies can but won't (you can push them). The piggies don't eat until they are full grown boars so they don't path. They will wander around a bit but they have no objectives (except to escape from attacking mobs).

The boars are large enough that they can clip through the walls. The piggies are small enough that they don't clip through walls.

You can clearly see 2 boars clipping through the walls in this screen shot.

If you exit render distance the boars can pass through the walls and escape your enclosure.

So, it seems boars don't see a 1 block wide gap as pathable. With a 2 high by 1 wide opening that you can walk through, boars won't go through unless pushed by you or another boar, even with a food enticement. If the gap is a bit over 1 wide then boars will go through as easily as a 2 wide, or open door. One block high also doesn't work, but I didn't try between 1 and 2.

Piggies apparently see themselves as full size and follow the same rules, and so I think I'm stuck with having to separate boars manually. Crap.

If a boar wants to go one way and its the opposite way that you want it to go you can't push it but piggies aren't strong enough to push against you. You can push the piggies anywhere you want them to go. You can separate the piggies from the adult boars by feeding the boars when they are hungry. The boars will move toward the food, the piggies won't.

Maybe a screenshot will show it better. I want the little piggies to exit through that 1x1 hole in the wall into a larger enclosure. However they just ignore it like it's not there, same as the adults. So does that mean they don't see it as a path? I've seen people do something similar in playthroughs so I thought it would work.

Yes. They will even pile on themselves to get over the large walls, or when one is born next to a palisade wall, it will clip thru.

All boars will make a beeline for ANY opening they can get to.

Use the round fence in the Misc tab to build a corral around the parents, and let the little ones out.
