[Spoilers] Info on the new armor for those interested
Root armor. It's a medium armor with low movement penalties, base armor value comparable to upgraded troll armor, poison resist and bow boosts.
Roots are obtained from Abominations, a new miniboss found in the Swamp. In terms of size, they're similar to the Mountain's Fenrings, and are twisted masses of roots that lash out with sweeping attacks as well as having a stomp that deals damage to anything close. Abominations drop 5 roots (Unknown if elites are a thing), and 10 roots are required for every piece of armor crafted as well as ancient bark & leather scraps. I would suggest using flaming arrows against them, but the swamp's rain will extinguish them, so axes or other forms of slashing damage will really be the best option. They don't hit too hard, so a good shield can land parries. Roots are also teleporter friendly, so you can farm root armor quickly without sailing home.
Each piece of armor makes you weak to fire, but they come with a minimal movement speed penalty of 2%. Additionally, the chest provides resistance to piercing damage while the helmet provides resistance to poison damage, making it an amazing pickup as soon as possible when hitting the swamp. Finally, the set bonus adds +15 to bow skills, giving us our first dedicated archer armor.
Really cool addition. Our first medium armor, our first armor with offensive boosts and to round it all out the helmet gives the very desirable poison resist.

Agreed. I always use flashlight helmet there too to find pieces of scrap iron that mostly clip through the wall.No one uses the flashlight helmet in the crypts , these are just for night building
you can hear every mob in the crypts , the names shines clearly + crypt torches , so is pretty dumb using it there , in exchange of a better helmet with so much more armor
And far as i know the abomination its almost inmune to pierce , slash is the best so one can farm them easy whit a bronze sword , i dont know yet if you can parry them with a full bronze buckler
Not true at all. I always use the flashlight helmet in crypts. Makes things easier but the main benefit is, you know, being able to see easier.

The problem is by the time you kill enough Abominations to get a fully upgraded set you will most likely have enough iron to jump to the iron armor and bypass this all together. The poison resist helmet is nice, but if you are in a Crypt, you would most likely be using the light circlet from the Merchant, so it won't benefit you much.
Abominations, being tree creatures would best be found in the Black Forest. While the armor set is cool, I don't think it will be used much.

Definitely get an iron buckler, they are super easy to parry.
They are basically the troll of the swamps.

the set doesn't use iron though, so i think you can theoretically make it before you kill the Elder

You could skip iron armor till you get silver, but you will still have to be carefull in mountains.
If you dont get hit, you could probaly kill morder in it.
It is however totaly usless in plains (and fire area), as shamans will burn you like a candle.
However i can see this armor still be usefull just for normal farming, so you dont have to run araund naked for maximum speed. Gathering and hunting pretty much.
Not sure how much poision resistance helps, but if lets you skip potions, you can also farm slimes with it.
There is a good chance we will see another type of light armor from mountain area in next patch that could fill the void.

I agree it comes at a point where only the poison resist is of use. I just now got 2 fully upgraded iron armor pieces, a new bow and an iron mace with just 1 upgrade left from clearing 3 crypts. I plan on building the Drake helmet with silver next. So I would just pop a poison resist potion instead of wearing the poison resist helm.
It would be different if there was a wait time between resist potions, but as soon as 1 potion wears off you can drink another.

Honestly, the ability to make the armor early on without any materials that need to be sailed is a godsend. Being able to mitigate poison without the hassle of mead will be nice, meanwhile the piercing resist from the chestpiece is going to be great against Draugr archers as well as Fuling spear throwers and might make it viable for quite a while. Also shuts down deathsquitos. Being nimble with respectable armor and resistance to most ranged damage is strong, this might be a perfect choice for lighter melee combatants that don't rely on shields in addition to the obvious uses for archers. I'll be trying it with an Atgeir to see how it fares in the plains.
The fire vulnerability is worth mentioning, but honestly there are few sources of fire damage that can't be easily avoided. I can't remember the last time a Fuling Shaman even got a hit off on me.

I'm happy to see a fantasy like armor set but they did it with taste. It fits the game. Hopefully we see more niche type armor sets and reworks of prior armors so there is a specific reason for specific pieces for player builds at some point.
