Same problem here with Radeon rx 5700, I limited the fps to 60 with Radeon software, removed all the graphic options and everything set to the minimum.

For some reason, even with my gpu being used at 30% at all times, the GPU starts to increase the temperature in an exaggerated way (in no other of my games it has risen that much) and the fans are put at full power, this has never happened to me with no other game, incredibly in Monster Hunter World with everything in maximum does not reach those temperatures.

GPU should run at 100%, it's perfectly normal for modern games.
Regardless of what people believe, Valheim graphics is not that basic.

What is with all of the people who know nothing about how video cards operate complaining about perfectly reasonable (and in this case quite LOW) temps?

I've played all sorts of games. Not a single game made my PC AND Laptop as hot as they were while running this.

At last one night while I was playing Valheim, laptop fans died (and started squeaking) and I had to send it for repairs. They reapplied thermal paste and replaced the fans.

So yeah, people say 'its normal' but it really isn't and this game can kill your PC/Laptop. But I can't stop playing it because it's so good. :/

Edit: My laptop is pretty high end (2070) and desktop PC has watercooling, large case and 3 fans. I thought my PC would be safe, but it's running louder than EVER while playing this game, unlike any other games.

Thats a problem with laptops in general and not just this game.

I'm aware. Laptops run hot and it's normal. I've played plenty of games and am used to it. Valheim was on another level though. Which needs to be stated. And it brought the laptop to the 'breaking point'.

Every other game; the top part of the laptop is hot, and I don't feel it unless I touch there specifically.

Cap your framerate. Use a proper coolpad. Nvidia control panel's Prefer Maximum Performance.

Chances are your CPU is just plain old cooking and not getting good vent. It may not be GPU at all.

Any unity game thats heavely using CPU like this game will do that. It doesnt matter iff you have a high end laptop or not :p

I have tried capping the framerate in the settings. The game for whatever reason defaults back to highest framerate when you exit out of the settings.

And I never claimed it was the GPU.

Regardless off that, did you try forcing it via nvidia control panel too?

A properly built computer, be it laptop or desktop, can run all processes at 100% indefinitely in a room temperature environment without overheating. If your PC is failing to do so, it's a problem with your PC hardware, it is really that simple.

That's well within the temperature range for the 1070. Calling the hot is like saying 98.6F body temperature is a fever.

Sounds like the frames are running unlimited, classic.

Valheim makes my card run hot too, about the same temp. People tell me it's normal and not to worry, so I wouldn't either. I guess the game just doesn't have much optimization and that its code just runs things at high usage. That temp is well within thermal limits and completely safe.

68 degrees is not hot at all for a GPU.........
