How long can I leave an enemy event going?
As I understand it, when an enemy event occurs (a foul smell coming from the swap, smell of sulphur in the air, etc), if I leave the area via portal, that event remains active until I return.
So if that is the case, I have a some questions:
1: If I leave the event area and it remains active until I return, does this mean I can leave it going indefinitely?
2: If I leave an event running elsewhere, does that prevent enemy events from occurring somewhere else? ie, I currently have a sertling event happening at one of my satellite encampments several islands away, could another enemy event potentially occur at my starting village simultaneously whilst the sertling event is still active?
3: If I leave a camp that is in the midst of an enemy event for an indefinite period, will that camp be damaged or destroyed in the meantime? When I left the aforementioned sertlng event, there were no enemies present. In fact, they had some considerable difficulty spawning near the base and apparently couldn't spawn within it.
Basically, what I'm wondering is if I can leave it going at that camp and go on with my life without having to worry about spending too much time at one of my other encampments without the risk of triggering an enemy event, and not worry about much, if any damage occurring at the event site?

1. Yes, however
2. There can only be one event at a time. Other events can still trigger tho, which means the previous event will stop.
3. The game map is divided into different cells. If you leave a cell, it becomesd more or less frozen. So you can happily leave the area. As long as it is not loaded, nothing will happen there.

On the dedicated server I play on, another player's base halfway across the world started a "the ground is shaking" event that he ignored because he was working in another project elsewhere. He never went back there, and he quit playing Valheim.
That was six weeks ago. The ground is still shaking over there and meanwhile I haven't experienced an event since before it started.

Ohhh thats so cool. If I ever have the muse to play Valheim again I will definitely take advantage of it as I am not a fan of these events (no they are not too hard just annoying).

On single player I left an outpost as soon as an event started and did not return to that outpost for weeks, when I returned there was a side missing to the house. Not sure when the event finished but this might explain the long dry period I had of events no me that you mention it can actually prevent more events

Yeah, sometimes I think they are kind of fun, but the idea that if I don't instantly drop what I'm doing and get outside a troll could instantly demolish my painstakingly crafted loft's supports is more stressful than enjoyable.
Having not visited the area where the ground is shaking, I don't know what has happened there. My guess is that the trolls don't really attack if nobody is nearby the zone, but for all I know that place could be completely leveled. All I know is it's been nice to go AFK without being afraid I'm going to come back and find a wall is missing.

Thanks for the responses folks! In short, what FunnyBunny posted played out with my situation. Long story short, a while ago we'd taken a snotgobblin camp on the edge of a land bridge where a plains/meadows sector met and repurposed the camp into a farm for flx, barley and for our Lox, Loxanne, built a stone wall perimeter with some towers to keep the snots out. A sertling event ensued, one I couldn't really be arsed dealing with at the time, so I bailed back through the portal. I was initially concerned that the sertlings might attack our Loxen and our barley/flax production, but they just weren't spawning in the base, so I didn't stress too much about it. I went back to our HQ to tinker a bit just to see what might happen. In relatively short order, the sertling attack switched to our main camp where they *could* spawn inside, so I bailed back to the plains to check on the camp and see how Loxanne was doing-- no damage at all, and a happy Loxanne met me upon arrival.
BUT, in the 15 or so minutes I spent running around the camp, checking on everything, harvesting and replanting food, the attack switched back to the plains camp where the initial sertling attack had started, this time as a troll event. And after encountering only a single troll (they really had problems spawning in, so clearly our perimeter defences work!) the event subsided.
So it would seem that, avoiding an enemy event at another camp will likely just result in that event transferring to any other camps you're in.
