Building is more awkward than it should be.
Specifically, trying to attach something to the bottom of something else is an unnecessary nightmare.
I know of the tricks of placing something close to a pole for instance to get it to snap and then deleting it, but even this doesn't work half the time. It can needlessly double the amount of time you spend building, all because items wont reliably snap.
I shouldn't have to need to see the underside of the thing im building against for the other item to snap.
Can I get a dev response on whether you're aware of this, or indeed are already working on fixing it in future?

sure, Aye, It is quite awkward, and it's hard to get underground, plus there is nothing There, anyway, but a beautiful SEED, regardless, and worth advancing
i just wish there were a TRAVELER system, for recruiting a village, it's a tough experience, but at least the combat is Top Notch, especially for a mining + crafting Game

There seems to be many problems with the building. I have been unable to figure out how to replicate constructions which I know can exist because I can see them in the Draugr villages.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.
In regards to a few of the comments, I haven't forgotten it's a game in early development :)
I am in full belief that constructive criticism is most valuable during the early stages of development. Such that any requests are more likely to be implemented without detrimental effect on further mechanics added to the game.
The game is certainly functional when it comes to building, as is evident in the incredible builds the Youtube community have on display. However, it's not without it's problems and I hope the devs take this opportunity to address this QoL issue :)
Cheers you lot o/
Quick edit: Forgot to say thanks for the mod suggestion. Thanks!

I am with you, you should never feel like you MUST mod a game. But the reality is that many, many games have community patches that fix bugs the devs never get (never will for many games) to. Here, at least you can say the game is basically in beta and we don't know what all they will fix when it is fully done but until they do, you can either work around it or use the mod.
it does work; its annoying but once you get the hang of it you can certainly attach stuff from below. Sitting down to craft can help, as can bogus parts and other tricks, or just patience. I have no mods and have built all kinds of very nice buildings and yes, some of it, from below though I avoid that as much as I can.
I respect, even admire the modders. I used to do it, even back when you hacked on compiled files with a hex editor. I just choose to not use a lot of mods, because too often I have ruined games with them (save files break, updates break, instability and problems, etc). I lack the time to do them anymore and I lack the patience to deal with the consequences when the game updates and the mods break and all that mess. Its just my choice.

Wait, does that mod also allow placing pieces upside-down and tilted?

Please don't forget that the game is in early access. It's not a finished product so things don't always work perfectly.
I've run into this problem and can usually work around it since I understand that it's an issue. I think most players who are used to the building system can work around it, even if it can be finicky. Holding left shift to disable the snap to function helps in some cases.
It's very likely they'll fix this in the upcoming "Hearth and Home" update since it's building focused.

*Oblivion and Skyrim fans are feeling assaulted by your opinion*https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/299?tab=descriptionIt was fixed by a mod, so devs don't need to hurry:
Why should you have to mod the game to make it functional? It's the devs responsibility
*Modding community faction points reduced*

The game is functional in terms of building. Got a huge base build around tall rock which sometimes spawns on plains. Built it without any mods.https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/299?tab=descriptionIt was fixed by a mod, so devs don't need to hurry:

This mod is useful in some situations only, like building under water or building protruding elements without building the scaffolding first.
And devs have no responsibility in early access. They create game, you give them money if you want to support it. Maybe they finish the game, maybe they don't and you will waste your money. If you don't agree with this you cannot do anything about it except of not supporting early access games. Simple as that!
