Its not really a waste. You can tame no star boars on day one of a game and once you have some bred you can cull them by switching PVP settings on. No butcher knife needed. I always have surplus raspberries after day 2 so its easy to get a sounder going and cooked boar meat (and later boar jerky and turnip stew) is better than plain raspberries Once you out level carrots you can feed them to the boars and when you out level boar meat products you can feed the boar meat to your wolves. On some seeds you won't find a starrred boar on your starting island because they won't spawn within 500 meters of the starting stones. That means that you'll have to advance beyond the meadows (and to a different island) to tame your first starred boar which likely means that you have to have enough surtling cores to make 2 portals especially since you need them for your smelter and kiln.

I honestly rarely bother with the boars, the tamed ones will still give the same amount of drops as the wild ones so normally i just find myself hunting the wild boar. The more stars a critter has, the more drops it gives though, so yeah, 2 star is preferred if you are going to farm boars (but those tend to spawn in areas farther away from spawn, so not something you tend to get super early anyway).

Worth noting the same logic does apply to the other tames though, and if you can survive things like the deathsquitos (serpent shield ftw) you can tame stuff like lox WAY before you are meant to by just leaving some cloudberries around where they already wander (which is usually between patches of cloudberries as is). Stuff like that can be totally worth taming, because you can end up getting some plains materials super early (not only is it much easier to kill a lox that doesn't want to murder you on sight, they are also great about killing everything remotely near them to, except they get nuked by the squitos surprisingly often if they are just 0-1 star)

1. Yes, if you tame 1 or 2 star boars, they will drop 2 or 4 meat/scraps each.

2. Taming is more worth in mulitplayer when you have to feed 4-7 people who have less time to hunt their stuff or do other tasks. It really makes sense to have kind of a farmer in a big group.

In singleplayer, I'm more excited to hunt my stuff, aside from the basic aesthetic aspect, or to bring more life to your village if you want to build one.

Yes you can, if you only tame boars with stars. Taming boars without stars is useless.

Make a larger pen and wait until you have a larger sounder. Then when you drop in lots of berries or carrots your large group produces more boars in the same amount of time.

This doesn't increase the amount of scrap and meat per boar. Think, the Answer was already given by Gisbert :)

Not really, they'll breed pretty fast if you hang out nearby doing other stuff - e.g. farming. Early game it's a good back up if hunting gets thin, and later boar meat doesn't matter anyway.

Sure if you find a stared boar while it still matters by all means prefer that, but I wouldn't waste the tie to hunt for one - not solo anyway.
