Noob Question: How does one use seeds?

I`m guessing you could make a farm with them but when I got the hoe I couldn`t figure out how to plant the darn things. I`m pretty sure I`m missing something so I figured I`d ask the wider community.

When asking about how to plant tomatoes, the first question is how deep. Tomatoes have the ability to grow roots along their stems, so when planting tomato plants, plant deep; right up to the first set of leaves. This takes care of those leggy tomato seedlings. If the plant is too long and wobbly, dig a small trench and lay the plant on its side, gently bending it into a right angle. Bury the stem in this position leaving those first two leaves exposed. Some gardeners believe those leggy starters will form a healthier plant than those with a more compact form. Water your seedlings in with a weak solution of high phosphorus fertilizer.

Now is the time to choose your support: stakes, cages, or unsupported. How far apart to plant tomato seedlings depends on your chosen support. If you decide to use cages or stakes, place them now so you don’t damage the growing roots later.

Plants should be about 3 feet (1 m.) apart when tomato planting with cages. Staking only requires about 2 feet (0.5 m.) between plants. Loosely tie the plants to their stakes as they grow, but set the stakes when you set the seedlings. You’ll need 3 feet (1 m.) between the plants and 5 feet (1.5 m.) between the rows if you’re planting tomato plants to grow naturally.

Yeah I just never got around to cutting one down sense I upgraded all my other gear before the axe which feels like a pretty big mistake.

Yeah, upgrading the axe should be priority #1 but you wouldn't necessarily guess that if you're just playing it by ear. Thankfully you can bypass the axe problem by baiting a troll into punching a few trees.

you don't need a bronze axe, flint will do for pine trees.

Pines are not close to my build so I never tried with flint and just assumed it wouldn`t work sense I came to this game after playing muck, then hating muck and found this game that I feel like muck ripped off lol.

Copper is found in the Black Forest, looks like bright solid rock mounds with golden veins.

Tin is found around the edges of the Black Forest, bumps of silver looking little mounds around the shore.

Combined(2 Copper=1 Tin) equals Bronze. Bronze opens up a bunch of new options The Cultivator is one of those options. The Cultivator 'grooms' the dirt you use it on. Once this happens, you can plat Carrots/turnip. Make sure you give them decent space otherwise they won't grow. Consider the space your character's width.

I have already discovered this, my current issue is actually that my level 3 forge isn`t showing a Cultivator tool so I`m guessing I need a new materiel to progress my recopies list.

Check out the Cultivator tool. When you have it equipped you can plant seeds on cultivated land, turn areas grassy again and plant trees. Hope this helps! :)

You will have to make a Cultivator at the Forge, it needs 5 core wood and 5 bronze. With it equipped, right click to bring up its menu, and the 1st icon will be Cultivate, select it and while aiming at the ground you can till the land and prepare it for seeds. the menu also has all the seed options you currently have unlocked, like carrots and the differnt kinds of trees. more seeds and stuff will be available to you in the cultivator menu as you progress too =)
