I recently picked up Conan after refunding it years ago when it was in EA. Never played ark though.

Valheim is a great time sink. I recommend going through the first time completely ignorant on how to advance. There's no in-game research tree to show you what you need. Instead you have to explore and find it.

Starry eyed as you find each new resource for the first time wondering what it might unlock.

Characters do not have stats or levels other than skill levels. Getting stronger comes via which bosses you've killed, what gear you've equipped, and what quality of food you have consumed.

In Valheim I never felt like I had to run out and cut down 1000 trees all at once to make a functional base. I didn't need some of the extravagant castles others have built.

When I did have to do some grinding it never felt like grinding to me. More like a task I needed or wanted to get done. Get some spare wood. Exploring. Oh yeah I need more arrows. I think I'll go hunting tomorrow.

I like the building system more in Valheim too. Each piece has multiple snapping points and you can clip objects into one another making something completely new.

As for gameplay, Valheim is an action game I would compare more to Breath of the Wild than 7 Days to Die.

Timed parries to get the advantage in combat and knowing when to dodge instead of blocking comes with experience. There's no flashy indicators on what to do in combat as seen in other games. The world is huge. You're gonna wish you had that glider.

I think I rambled on enough on why I fell in love with Valheim.

If ya do get it I hope you take my advice and remember going in that ignorance is bliss. When you discover everything for yourself the game is just that much better.

I play ark singleplayer with the settings set to make that bearable.
Last I played this game it was far more grindy. Although there may be more settings in valheim to adjust now.

Yeah like 6 hours in my solo i had 6 sabertooth kitties to ride, where in valheim 6 hours in im riding a turtlespeed raft.
I'll probably hop back into some valheim with him sometime to check out the updates, I certainly like the game but it is time consuming even when you aren't screwing up, kinda curious what the easy setting they are coming out with will influence.

Obvious bait, But valheim is superior to both of them. The only survival game that even comes close to how good Valheim is, is the Forest.

Valheim is a bit grindy, but I think it makes the game paced better. As you learn to optimize, you cut a lot of the grind out, as most of the grind is Optional safety net ♥♥♥♥, like upgrading your gear multiple times (totally not necessary, just gives you one or two extra ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in combat)

Most grind comes from your base, but the more you invest in your infrastructure, the more it pays for itself in time saved later but ultimately, especially in its early access state with no end point, the game is all about exploration and hording resources or building new things. To get any type of long-term satisfaction out of game only about half complete, you have to be very self-driven with your goals. For example, I'm currently RPing as a Templar purging the world of Magic, killing any magic users I see on sight and hording all the Eitr in an underground vault. My friend who plays on my same Dedicated Server is RPing as Goblin Slayer. Every 30 minutes or so over chat I'll hear "GAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWBBBBBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSS!!!! And if I go to the spot he shouted from, all I'll find is scorched and salted earth, with an effigy built to mark his conquest.

Like most sandbox games, Valheim is what you make of it. If you can't handle that, you might be better served sticking with Sony Moviegames like God of War.

i would compare Valheim to 7daystodie. both sand box building games

I've never played Conan. I tried Ark after Valheim and it was a steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥ in comparison.

Basically Ark is some Pepsi knock off and Valheim is Coca-Cola. Edit: and if you prefer Fanta then survival craft isn't for you.

i got ark for free and still cant bring myself to play it and conan just dont even compell me to play it in any kind of way so im not sure how i can compare them

Maybe change your tone, mate? Nobody here has to convince you of anything. This game has been successful for a reason. If you are really interested in the game, go watch some videos on YT or streams on twitch. If it's for you, great. If it's not for you, absolutely nobody cares.

Pepsi (or knock off of it) doesn't require a disk of its own to drink though? :v
