best way to extract tar from the pit?

i know using the Hoe and raise ground works but are there any other ways?
also poison pots are good to protect, or is root mask good enough or both?

You can drain them. Dig a pit nearby and then break the ground next to the pit

most folks go for the Drain & Strip , but you can farm it by taking out the Growths that chase you ... come back later for a little more .

I set up a workbench by one (so the growths don't respawn). Then I dig a long, deep ditch to the pit and drain it.

drain them? I dig holes around the pit before opening a communication to it, or just lead the tar down some slope.
