Tattoo's would be awesome
Was just thinking how cool it would be to add tattoo's (especially face tattoo's) and be able to remove/add them in game with paints. Maybe the patterns could be found in loot or something.

For pure cosmetics maybe, but I don't want to distract the devs from finishing the other biomes with more game mechanics to figure out.

It would be a fun thing, but considering how simple the character creation is, I doubt it will happen. Maybe someone will come up with a mod.

Perhaps face paints would be more appropriate. By what I have read consensus is Vikings did have tattoo's but I like the idea of face paints more.
Small google search yielded this: In Viking culture, Viking face paint was often used as a form of war paint, to intimidate enemies and show support for a particular cause or leader. Face paint was also used for religious or spiritual purposes, as some Vikings believed that it had the power to protect them or bring them good fortune.
So perhaps the face/body paint could be used for temporary buffs. Getting Wet would degrade the paint, eventually washing it off. After playing Assassin's Creed: Valhalla it feels weird not seeing any type of paint/tattoo's on my character.

I guess I don't get why that would be awesome, unless they gave + to stealth or scared away enemies. Cosmetic stuff doesn't trip my trigger - but to each their own.

I, personally, have no desire to have a tattoo either in Valheim or real life.
For those who would like to have tattoos in Valheim, I would like to make the following points:
Given the nature of a tattoo, it should not be removable. Tattoos only became removable without cutting off the skin on which they were placed in my lifetime. Vikings would not be able to remove tattoos without removing the skin.
Simply painting one's face or other body parts might also be included. Such decorations would be removed by immersion in water or running around in a rain storm.
A tattoo or a face painting should require new tools. Knives and fingers might suffice for large and crude tattoos and face paintings but more elaborate designs should require needles and brushes. A solo Viking would also require some sort of mirror for a facial tattoo.
