How single player is single player?

Is it basically a co-op demo or can this game be soloed?

can be solo'ed with a large heaping of extra difficulty from the second boss (The Elder) and on

even with prep and back-up gear, you can still get repeatedly killed going back to recover your stuff, or even just while minding your own business and building inside your home when a raid decides to happen

just today, a troll raid, armed with tree trunks, wrecked the house and portal i had in a Black Forest biome that was near 2 boss altars, despite having put up sharp stakes all around my stakewall, lots of core wood I used to build those spikes, and a couple beams, had despawned by the time I was able to sail back there from the starting area

it can be enjoyable, but it's currently frustrating as heck when you're alone, which may not deter folks from the challenge (my respects to you), but it is too frustrating for shameless casuals like me
as of writing this, i've yet to play in a group and hope to soon
Second boss is easy. Build a house on his spawn point and have it with a double roof.
Put up a fence and some fires around. He will walk around and summon his roots ... the roots get pushed up to the roof above. Having two roofs just in case one breaks. He basically can't hurt you very much that way.

The only reason I am low on health in the screenshot is that I forgot to eat before I spawned him in ha ha.

That's disgusting, I love it.

It has mods that can make it as easy or difficult as you would like.

I'm soloing it on Players 10, currently halfway into the bronze tier. Upping the Players X setting is an interesting challenge to say the least.

I consider myself a "shameless casual" of a sort -- my aim is terrible, my reflexes are slow, I daydream, and my melee sucks -- but I've played nearly all the game solo and enjoyed it. As several persons above have said, it is a game that rewards meticulous pre-preparation to a huge degree -- every one of my boss battles has ended up as an undignified massacre (I was even sorry for the humiliating way Moder went down) but I put in a LOT of work to make sure things came out the way I wanted. You have great freedom in changing and tailoring the terrain in this game -- use it! Trenches, pits, and earth walls will save your skin since most enemies can't make any sort of a dent in them. For instance, when I went up against the Elder, I tunnelled clear under his altar and built a complete base underground there, with a portal, an upgraded workbench, a bed, and a forge. I had tunnel exits in all four directions and a deep moat around the altar a short distance away, so old Woody was just about helpless when he emerged; I stayed under cover and popped out every now and then to set the poor fellow on fire until he cashed in his chips.

Backup gear. Always have backup gear. I have a handy "I done ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up" chest by my portals just for such occasions.

This game is tricky, but can be soloed. Experiment with your food, equipment, and mobs. Some mobs will attack each other.

I think most people solo it. It’s a lot of fun.

Soloed as long as you take things careful and prep since there isn't anyone to bail you out if you do something dumb. Valheim is a game that rewards caution and prep, and punishes rushing in blindly button mashing.

If you don't mind extra grinding, then it's an amazing solo experience. I've only played solo and haven't had any problems.
