Larger copper deposits

We all have various things we long to see in this wonderful game, but #1 on my list is (much) larger copper deposits.

I enjoy building small mining shacks by copper deposits. Workbench and forge for repairs, temporary storage for ore, bulk storage for stone that doesn't need to be taken home right away, camp fires for light, warmth, and keeping greylings away, and some minor comforts to get a basic rested bonus. I also like roughly leveling out a dirt path (and clearing some trees) from the camp to my base for running cart loads of copper back home.

But, as I set all that up, I'm constantly aware of how little use I'll actually get out of any of it. It takes longer to set that up than it does to strip a copper deposit bare. Even 2 or 3 copper deposits in close proximity run dry too quickly. The only time my mining base has ever actually been worth it was one time finding 6 deposits in a cluster, but finding a spot like that (as I was extremely determined to do) took more scouting time than I care to admit, and required a boat trip as well, so wasn't available for my first copper needs, when copper is arguably most important. It also had limited use for cart roads, since most of the trip was done by boat.

TL;DR
I wish there were copper deposits that stretched out over a much larger area than currently available, at least 5x as large, possibly even veins that stretch indefinitely with varying levels of thickness.

Anybody else like mining bases?

To clarify the original post, the issue for me isn't a lack of copper. There's tons of copper in the world, plenty even for people like me who use a lot more than is "needed" for decorations and redundant tools and gear. How much or how little copper you actually need isn't the point.

For me, the issue is that I enjoy the whole concept of mining bases and roads for carts, but there's never enough copper in one place to make them worth the effort. 2-3 hours clearing trees, smoothing cart paths, ramps down into the pit, and building a functional outpost doesn't really make sense for the sake of a deposit that you can strip mine in the same amount of time without any of that. Real problem? No, just a missed opportunity, hence the wish list. :)

It's also a little annoying aesthetically for me personally, to have huge pits randomly around my local area. One mega pit with a structure and roads feels/looks better imo.

Unfortunately, I'm aware that an ideal fix for it is unrealistic, as I'd rather the deposits spread deeper rather than wider, and the bedrock limit just isn't deep enough to allow for that. Wider would still make me happy, but deeper would have been awesome. :)

(And no, sorry, but no matter how big you think the copper deposit you found is, I'm sure I've seen some of comparable size. If you think that's big, then it's just a matter of perspective. I've played the game enough to know how big the deposits are, and I dream of 10x bigger.)

I have 1 chest full of smelted copper, one of smelted tin, and one of bronze. I don't need any more and I doubt that I will use what I have and there are literal tons of copper deposits left that I could mine and I have barely 1/4 of the world explored. I'm sure there are more deposits I haven't found.

Early on in our game, my son and I came across copper deposits that were 3 & 4 times larger than the ones on our starting land mass. They were all on very steep inclines, and most were along a Black Forest coast. I still see the gashes in the mountain side, where we cut into the mountain from water level so deep into the mountain 3 longships would be able to moor inside end to end. We have not needed to mine copper since shortly after we killed Bonemass.

I have recently noticed on my solo game seed map, there are always 2 - 3 decent copper mines surrounding Troll Caves. I always tag them now with a special icon, and when I see a Troll spawn in the area, I kite the Troll to the surface formation. I just stand on the copper and block/parry the Troll until he has mined all the surface copper.

Mining bases, sure--often set one up when I find a good area of copper nodes. Don't need bigger ones, they got plenty in them if you do manage to dig all around and find all of it. They are definitely bigger than they look much of the time unless you get lucky and find one sticking out over a steeper hill.

sounds like too high an investment per copper deposit. if there are 4 or 5 in an area, you can build a central shack to store it, and then cart it to your base to smelt it.

once you have a little bronze, just bring mined copper to the shore, and ship it home in a boat. a lot easier. just run back and forth to the boat, dropping off.

Once you've mined out 6 or so complete nodes you won't need any more copper for the rest of that game. I always just build 2 walls and a roof over a work bench so that I can repair the antler pick and then haul the copper and stone away.

I can't say that we have similar ideas of enjoyment in the game. I usually just find a tower ruin, build a temporary base there, and mine the ore that's within reasonable walking distance from it. That usually get's me plenty for what I need.

That said, it's kind of refreshing to hear someone say that mining a copper node goes by too quickly. Most seem to want to complain about how many hours it takes mining copper, and how it's the absolute worst part of the game! :-)

I like to build mines with all the buildings. Did vikings use rail carts?

"Need," no, but I do love me my copper sconces. On many roads I build, I end up lining them with stone pillars and attach sconces on two or four sides.

Or at least, used to when I actually played. I was always on my server waiting for everyone else, got lonely and bored, and ended up doing a lot of projects I wanted to wow my players with. Quite ironically, it was quite often the projects I did NOT put a lot of time and thought into that seemed to wow them the most, haha... ha...

On a few worlds, I converted mining pits into defensive structures, troll pits, and even labyrinths by connecting the pits by trenches. Once I even covered one with a "floor" and put a bunch of Lox rugs all over it, covering hidden gaps in the floor to trap other players. (None of my friends ever "fell" for it, pun intended.)

I've had clusters of six where some of them were double nodes and ended up with more copper than I needed.

I tend to scout a lot but I also don't need a ton of copper since I roll with troll when I can get it first.

you can say that again :) The copper deposits usually go all the way down to "bedrock". When I mine I always end up with HUGE pits.

Then I use an Abysall harpoon to put a Troll in it. Contains the danger and keeps another Trolls from spawning in the same general area. Improves safety while I log the area for core wood and gather Blueberrys & thystles :D

This was an unintended bonus when I set up my base at the Trader. We woke up one morning to hear the low growls and grumbles of a Troll, and were frantic that it would destroy our base. When we found that he'd stumbled in one of our pits, we left him there for entertainment value. Only later did we realize that his presence kept other trolls from spawning in.

I always dig to bedrock. :P There is definitely not a single piece of copper left in a deposit when I'm done with it.
