I read 7DTD (which I just bought) is a one man development team, and yes the updates are slow, but they keep coming. IG has expanded to ten people, and the pace of updates looks good to me.

I'm starting to think that IG should change the way the map handles new biomes. If an "under_development" flag could be added to the location metadata, then the terrain and its contents could be re-generated each time the player enters, just as they are the first time. (Or maybe this tag just goes with the biome)
This would allow a biome to be developed and released in pieces. As soon as new critters, plants, poi or whatever are added and released in an update they appear. Players can comment, find bugs and so on as the new biome is developed in whatever sized chunks the devs think works best.
You couldn't build in a biome that's under development, and that might even preclude lighting a campfire. (Alternately, any changes you did make would be wiped out when you returned.)
This is a process known as Rapid Evolutionary Development, and it is extremely efficient. We want that, right?

Aint no way mistlands is releasing this year lol There are still 3 unfinished biomes left at least. IG has given estimates that it should take them about 6 - 9 months per biome. So even with Mistlands slated for 2022, the final release will probably at least still be another year.
But you don't have to start a new world every time. Undiscovered parts of your old maps will receive the new content for their biomes (not a 100% guaranteed, as no entirely new biome has been added yet; but based on previous updates). And you can treat new worlds simply as raiding expeditions; a character's inventory and unlocked recipes travel over to the old world with them. So you can keep all your old bases, and still play the new content.

That's a little optimistic. There are still 3 unfinished biomes left at least. IG has given estimates that it should take them about 6 - 9 months per biome. So even with Mistlands slated for 2022, the final release will probably at least still be another year.
The three unfinished biomes are:
Mistlangs
Ashlands
Deep North
These alone at IG's current rate of development of one biome per year would mean completion of these biomes in 2024. One also has to consider whether or not there are other biomes yet to be disclosed. The land beyond the edge of the world at the bottom of the waterfalls, for example.
However, that is not all... there is also the end game, the game conclusion.
Therefore, I estimate a final release will be closer to 2025 than "at least another year" :)

Doesn't matter to me. Yes, I'd like to see new content, but I'm still having enough fun with the current game, so I don't mind.
Remember, the journey is the game. Not killing the latest and greatest boss and rushing through the new biomes in a matter of an hour.
Take your time. Enjoy the pixely but beautiful nature. Breath in.... ahhhhh.... breath out... So relaxing. ;)

I admit that's a problem. I'm pretty sensitive to it in real life. Thankfully I don't have to go through what I've sent my vikings through. :D

Dude, sometime you gotta quell your curiosity when playing this game. You understand that some unreleased content will not generate if you have traveled on that area already making it wasted space. Just wait and do not travel in unreleased areas so that you do not have to keep making worlds.

Totally agree @Nefrarya i had a pre H&H world and i had deliberately skirted mountains when discovered on fog of war map... now via vesivigrr (sp?) Moder has an altar on an island all but fully discovered and portalled except for its mountain biome :-) even quite close to a now discovered egg nest :-) Its harder for me to get Eggs back to base ..than it will be to get them to the altar :-)

Look up Valheim roadmap in google images.
They only did 1 update in 2 years. And it wasn't a big update but few new roofs and plantable onions.
