I don't think this game wants me to have a tamed wolf.

I've owned Valheim since launch. Played on and off. Recently picked up again last month and just got around to playing with taming.

I found a nice spot on my starter island that has wolves. I setup a camp nearby with a wooden stake pit to train them in and it has been an experience.

1. Tamed the first wolf I captured. After taming I opened up the training pit and let my wolf out. Started playing around with giving it a name and commands.... "A foul smell from the swamp".... This is when I learned I could kill my own pet in combat.

2. Annoyed but not defeated I pulled in another wolf. Going good I'm upgrading my nearby camp to get it presentable. Starts raining hard, camp gets smashed from the side, "The ground is shaking"... Tooth and nail fight with two trolls as I try to keep them away from my wolf while suffering from the wet effect. Right towards the end as I've got them both under half hp they laser focus on my wolf in training and kill it.

3. So I'm not too happy by this point but I'm giving it another go. Everything is going great. Wolf is taming I built up some defenses around my camp to avoid anymore trolls smashing it up and now I'm just chilling inside my camp. Suddenly something starts beating the crap out of my front door. I come out swinging and down the beast. It's a wolf. I must of aggroed one from the nearby mountains. That's when it hits me. I run and check my training pit and sure enough my wolf had aggroed and busted out. I just killed a wolf that was likely 80%+ trained.

4. Still in the pity party phase of things but will be giving it another go.

*Lol. It happened again. I started digging out a moat but my pick broke and it's a long run back to the base. I just rolled with taming and at around 80% I get "The ground is shaking" event. As soon as it ends the trolls bee-line for my wolf in taming. I'll have to bring some spare picks with me to finish the moat. I'm getting me that damned wolf!

Ive found that digging pits and dragging a wolf in the hole, jumping out and throwing meat than covering the pit so the Drakes cant kill it helps alot. than I just sit and wait it out lol

Ya especially after breeding 50 wolves with no mods and bringing them into a battle with Yagluth and him killing all of them in 3 shots. Hell ya there better now lol

I can't speak for the game's stance on the matter, but I don't want you to tame wolves either, if you don't mind hearing my opinion.. Tame lox, if anything, and move on to greener pastures. :)

You have had the game since launch, and your barely taming? you need to build a ravine around your base. The creatures don't have leg animations, where they can lift there knees; therefore a troll will get stuck if your getting hit in an event. If your really worried about your wolves, tame them underground, than no event will hit you

and you need more than one wolf. Wolves have a 95 hp bar. That aint ♥♥♥♥ when going through a troll. You need to breed as many as you can or download a mod called Keezers better wolves on Nexus and bump there durabilty up. The wolves have one the strongest bites in the game. Take advantage of that.

I've owned the game since launch but I only played until bronze when it came out. I just recently started again so I haven't been actively playing.

Yeah no doubt. I was hoping to keep my taming area simple but it's looking like I'll have to fortify the area if I want it to go smoothly.

I don't really want an army of wolves. Mainly a pet wolf to keep at my main base which is fortified against attack.

Of course the game doesnt want you to have a tamed wolf after you named the first one "Fifi"! Its not gonna risk that kind of horror again! :P

Build an underground cavern with stone roof (stone roof first) and breed down there....bring up wolves from the dungeon as needed.

My wolves are indoor wolves, so only the bat event can be kinda of dangerous for them, cause the balcony is not crystal windowed^^

Yeah, but scarred/aggroed loxes (f.e. if mobs wandering outside base) can do a decent damage to your base^^

That's why I keep my loxes at a separate location about halfway towards the edge of the world, on an open shore of the meadows, where they only get to stomp the occasional boar or neck. :p

But you're right of course. Loxes won't make for good indoors pets.

I have had 3 bat attacks the last week. They All targeted my wolfs and did not care about me at all. Not a single bite and i was standing in the middle of the pack and after a weil i jumped up on a roof. Did not matter at all. Thats not how it supposed to be...Is it?
